Small note about hussars: Their biggest advantage was superb use of charge tactics. As we all know, principle of a charge is simple - one side charges, the other shoots at them, and if there is enouh attackers, the charge engages in a combat with defenders. What is always the problem, is the density of the charging army - given that old ranged weapons (bows, cannons, muskets) are highly inaccurate, the densier the charging army is, the easier for the shooter is to hit anybody. And there lies the principal of the Hussar success in Vienna, in Kircholm, in Kłuszyno, and Chocim - their charging force was very wide spread during charging phase, and closed their ranks only meters before impact. This made the charge phase losses due to being subjected to enemy fire as low as possible, and the charge as effective, as having squashed about 30 000 infantry by 6 000 cavalry in Kłuszyno, with minimal Polish losses. Of course, the commander skills were always a major factor as well. But Hussar charge... Man it was something else.
