This is my everyday life; Little motors. Powertune, ring-free, and seafoam are all the same stuff, so buy which ever one is cheapest for you. 😉 Those little auto start valves are really strange. According to yamaha, they have a wax inside them that slowly melts when voltage applied, which allows it to slowly move somehow. I dunno, I've never cut one open.

Would love to see a video on fuel tank anti-siphon valve and why it's so hard to get gasoline out of a boats tank. After Ida we had really bad gas shortages and with 175 gallons in my Contender I was looking for a way to get some gas out of it easily. Alas, that didn't happen. Thanks for all the great vids you produce.
@thediplomasta5891
@thediplomasta5891 2 жыл бұрын
Sometimes, the end of the pickup tube inside the tank can get plugged or blocked. I've seen it a few times, always a different reason, but the same cause. The spring on the anti-syphon valve is very soft. If it isn't gummed up, it should easily release. If you remove the A.S. valve, you can poke the little ball in the back of it and feel the spring tension.

Our motor would be extremely hard to start, shut off when we gave it gas like that 40 horse Yamaha, there was gas leaking everywhere, and it would constantly foul plugs so badly we had to replace them. We rebuilt the carburetors and it fixed all of those problems. It was very easy to do too. Carburetors are not that complicated.

Please Help. I have an 1989 Johnson 70HP rebuild by Coastline Marine in Florida. The rebuild cost $3180. (rebuild include: bore the 2 bottom cylinders to the next larger size piston. replace the top piston for cylinder 1, rebuild carbs, new thermostat). The guy told me to check the ignition and timing by a mechanic. I have called every marina in Boston area to have them check the timing for me but no one is willing to work on older motor so I have to check the ignition/timing myself. I have watched KZbin videos bought 2 manuals to do the timing/ignition myself. When I check the TDC of the motor, new TDC mark that I've found is 2.5" to the left of the factory TDC. Is this correct ? TDC needs to be correct before I can continue forward. Thanks for your help.

What could the problem be if it is direct injected?
@ESPPsycho
@ESPPsycho 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks man. Any chance you have a video about a cold 2-stroke cutting out at idle in neutral? Makes shifting on my way out of the marina fun. I basically always have to give it a little gas. Short of too low idle adjustment, I figured low compression might do it..
@thediplomasta5891

Could be several things. Start with the basics, which. Are spark, compression, and gear oil status. One of those things will usually lead you to the issue, along the way of checking them.

According Yamaha these F30/F40 are the most complicated carbs they have because of the tiny passages and acelerator pump. Sometimes these carbs to be properly cleaned need to be drilled. From my experiance this carbs sometimes are a pain to clean but the most dificult I had to sync was the 1st generation of F50 (up to 2000). Now days most people hate 4 strokes with carbs but no complains here, I still have a F100 and a F60 with carbs free os problems because I use a good pre-fuel filter and dont let carbs settle with gas for a long time.Thanks for another great video. Best regards from Portugal

So the moral of the story: having clean fuel and fuel filters to begin with is 60% of the carb operating properly…the rest(floats, enrichner, settings, etc.) is normal wear/maintainence….

And drain your carb bowls if the boat is gonna sit for a while.
@thediplomasta5891

The other 40% is using only ethanol free gas. People just don't understand how much of a difference it makes in the engine maintenance, down the line. It's also the reason that they could use steel gas tanks, back in the day. White gas=no rust in the gas tank (or water).

Not saying "stick to fixing boats" but you had a few videos that came off weird and seemed to be hunting for purpose. This one is back to those good ole feels. Hope you throw all kinds of stuff out there, but, have a goal for the video when you go to flesh it out. Drop a line if you ever wind up in Savannah, we have plenty of content to film up here and I will even hold the camera for ya ;-)

You must not keep that thing on a boat. Working on your motor is the last thing you want to do. Most people want it to be as reliable as it can.
@smannee
@smannee 3 жыл бұрын
@@UltraMagaFan to the contrary. It is bolted on to my tender. It's extremely reliable and has been since I bought it. My son uses it as a run about when its not on tender duty. The work I was referring to included regular servicing, impeller changes, cleaning my carburetor and replacing anything that doesn't work properly or that has surpassed its service life. I am not an outboard technician (physician by trade) but I'm fascinated with machines and making my outboards work as perfectly as is possible. One love from the Southern Caribbean (grenadines)
@UltraMagaFan
@UltraMagaFan 3 жыл бұрын
@@smannee Well in that case good for you. I’d imagine you guys down in the Southern Caribbean use boats a lot. If you have the time you could go to a technical college learn how to work on outboards become a technician and make extra money off of it in your down time. It wouldn’t even be working since you enjoy it. I don’t particularly enjoy working on outboards (especially when there’s small parts) but that’s what I plan to do. The only job I want pays $35,000 a year. It’s a great source of money where I’m from. Especially if you also know how to work on jet skis engines and inboards.

@@UltraMagaFan thank you for the advice and support. I don't think I will become a certified tech. I am Doctor, that's what I meant by physician. I make a pretty good living.
