@uliutz5 жыл бұрын
You have to keep in mind that they play with eb trumpets and you most certainly play with bb trumpets which makes it a lot harder. Highest note in this is a c, from what i'm hearing, not too easy playing that note nice and smooth.

It's probably not too controversial to say many believe J S Bach to be the finest composer of fugues the world has yet seen. I know this piece from the organ score but this works superbly for brass, each voice adding a unique and complementary tone, strengthening the whole while underlining the counterpoint. Excellently delivered.

Amazing how with only five brass instruments that they stay true to the original melody, harmony, dynamics, and tempo 100% of the time!
@youtuuba Жыл бұрын
Amazing how somebody can write a comment with so little knowledge of what they are writing about. - Bach wrote this as a 4 voice fugue for organ. It is not at all amazing that a brass quintet can play all the parts when they have five instruments to do it with. - Why would they NOT stay 'true to the original melody'? - Why would they NOT stay true to the harmony (which, BTW in a fugue is buried in the contrapuntal interweaving of the parts), so it would require a major recomposition to NOT have the harmony come out the same as Bach wrote it? - There are no original dynamics. Organ parts are not known for having dynamic markings, as the similar effect is achieved by how the part of written and how each organist sets up the stops on the organ. The brass quintet pretty much just plays each part at the same dynamic level throughout, and lets Bach's writing take care of the dynamic effects. - There are no original tempo markings in the sense that there would be for many pieces of ensemble music. The organist performs at whatever tempo they feel is appropriate. The brass quintet does likewise.

@WonjoonSeo3 ай бұрын
@@youtuuba They complimented the brass quintet which was incredibly well performed. To counter a lot of what you said: - Brass playing is very different than organ playing. While yes it is more impressive to have the ability to play this on organ by yourself, do not say it is not amazing. Each part is written to some of the maximum reaches that these instruments can be performed, while maintain clear clarity and articulation. There wasn't a single chip I heard through the entire recording. - Isn't it arrangers choice to stay with the main melody or not? There are many styles of music and the melody could have been changed to make it easier or in a different stye. - I have seen so many different styles of the same music a lot of the time that its incredible what people who know their theory can do. Rearranging takes time and effort, but when its over it can lead to something reharmonized beautifully and sometimes better than the original. - This group 100% did not stay with the same dynamic the entire time. If that is what you heard, then you are mistaken. The entire group has a relative dynamic but there are time when the volume increases and decreases. Including that, each player seamlessly weaves dynamically, making room for each other and popping out when they need to. - There are a lot of ideas in music that are not communicated directly through paper but often recordings and collections of style that people played in. There is definitely no one tempo but there is a commonly agreed upon speed. If they played it 50% or 200% the speed of a standard playing it wouldn't fit the exact style it was written for would it?

I played horn all through my junior and senior years at school. At 17 I audition for the Marine Corps band, but my parents wouldn’t sign my papers to go into the Corps. Many years serving in Germany I got the chance to play a German quintet for fun. I played a trumpet then. In the middle ‘80’s I went Army Reserves and played with a pops band on horn and had the chance to play with a real orchestra at least once. Called back to active duty in Iraq ended my playing anything. I haven’t been able to get to it yet, but I’m hoping to.
