H Beam Piper is my favorite sci-fi writer of all time.. its a shame that his agent died before he was able to tell piper he'd sold little fuzzy as a book.

I avoided this one for a while because of the cover and a worry it would be another sci fi story about a cute alien or robot. But after reading lots of other works by Piper, I'm interested now. Also I see that the sequel to this ("fuzzy sapien" a.k.a. "the other human race") is the first in his "future human history" series which i want to listen to.

I thought you cut the story short. I now realize that this story was a trilogy when I read it back in the 80's. One of my favorites I found by accident.

A bit unusual for Piper, IMHO.. good story; captivating. Found myself trying to predict which way a phrase or para was going to end up

Sort of a space aged version of the "Scopes monkey trial". .... It's funny cuz I actually just read about the Scopes trial today. They mentioned it in a joke on an old MST3K I was watching so I got curious and looked it up. (For anyone who doesn't know, it was a trial in the American South in the 20's against a teacher accused of teaching evolution in school. It was labelled "Scopes Monkey Trial" by the media. I think there was even a film made about it.)

...so I guess it's really nothing like this story but I couldn't resist the joke since there is a trial involving primates.

In a 1960s interview with John Thomas scopes, he related he was approached by a group of lawyers and recruited to teach evolution in a Tennessee school in order to invoke the legal system of the state of Tennessee. In the movie scopes is portrayed as the brave teacher presenting “scientific truth” to students and being oppressed by the government. that’s not the case and scopes himself made no bones about it. The proponents of evolution had not much in the way of academic acceptance, even less a public acceptance. The goal was public relations, which had been established by Charles Darwin‘s colleague Thomas Huxley: if you can’t gain academic acceptance, seek popular acceptance. The problem was and is the lack of fossil evidence. Darwin stated to be required for his claims concerning descent with modification: the record of the rocks did not and does not show ancestral forms necessary to substantiate evolution. From the 1920s to the present, the problem is only compounded. In the 160 years since Darwin’s claim, there is no evidence of evolution of any living organism into another kind of organism, not for plant, animal nor humans. In a particularly telling scene in the movie call inherit the wind” a defender of the Bible is “scripture stating the mountains were thrust up in the valleys were cast down. This apologist was asked to explain how this is possible. He stated he did not know how but he believed the Bible. This was cast as being “blind faith“ in holy writ. Since the time of that movie to the present, the science of plate, tectonics has risen; we now know that collision zones between plates produce mountain ranges, and subduction zones produce deep, rifts and valleys. SCS Lewis, once observed, men of the Christian faith - like Galileo Galilei, Johann Kepler, Isaac newton, John Maxwell, and Michael Faraday - became scientist when when they looked for order in the universe, as they understood God to be an orderly creator, the law giver who made x moral laws so life would not be chaotic and physical laws so the universe would not be chaotic. That is why we called him “natural laws”” laws of science.” The blind faith of naturalist has led them down any number of blind alleys. “Vestigial organs“ proof of man’s evolution - until the supposedly useless organs were found to be functional. “Junk DNA” was supposedly a sign of random DNA until it was found the supposedly junk DNA was functional code. Blind cave fish Thought to be examples of evolution where eyes were never needed - until it was found these fish head eyes in the embryonic stage that were assumed by a process called cell death because some environmental que deleted the eye structures from embryonic development. Science fiction is a wonderful exercise for the imagination and intellect. Scientific discoveries are made by venturing beyond what we think is possible into what is seemingly impossible. Science does not operate in the comfort zone; neither does truth. In the course of dialogues over decades with professed believers in evolution, I have found it it functions for them as both a comfort mechanism and a belief system. People flatter themselves that, although they themselves lack the scientific grounding, they can take the word of self proclaimed experts in the field of evolution, and by agreeing with them, they themselves are informed, those effects prove otherwise. It is a belief system in that any evidence presented can adorn the structure of the idea of evolution like ornaments on a Christmas tree, without any real connections, archeopteryx, Australopithecus afarensis, tiktaalik et al are cited to me as “proof”, examples of “transitional forms” yet none of these have ancestral forms nor descendants in the fossil record, and that none of these are of themselves evidence of evolution. By all means, read up on the subject of the “scopes monkey trial“ and watch the movie, but do it in the historical context. Charles Darwin advanced an idea about origin of species and in the nearly 200 years since the evidence necessary to support his idea has not materialized. In storytelling, I suspect fuzzies are the ancestors of Ewoks.

How come almost every time I watch a KZbin video lately, I always see in the sponsored content video to the right "Men 55+ Get hard in 30 seconds"? Should I be worried about that? I mean I'm not 55+ and I've never searched for or otherwise expressed interest in Viagra or anything. But with all the covert data gathering they do these days, I'm worried maybe they know something about me that I dont.... ...And then there's another part of my mind that can't help thinking "30 seconds, huh?.... Really? Hmm....". ... LOL!!!
