I’m literally crying watching this because my great grandmother lived there when it got burnt down. They make it so hard to find out your family history but I’m working so hard on it. The suffering they did to my ancestors still has an impact on me and I don’t feel like many people get it. It breaks my heart what happened. Thank you so much for sharing this. If you could give me some pointers on finding out information that would be helpful.

Im finding tons of native acrceology in houghtonlake. This whole town is native but no one cares I have found rocks that when spun creates moving serpant pictures. I have a rock of a bigfoot heD Stone lips and trees on my property that have coiling serpents grown into the tree by placing pine tar on them as saplings Now I'm being shown there works in satelite photos. Many land mosaics still show their works through irrigation trenches and vegetation planting

So sad how things are done that are clearly criminal and yet no justice! My childhood was filled with the forests of upper Michigan and I always learned what I could about America Natives and life. 😢

Thank you for the information and history; we live in the area, and were very upset to hear the story, for the first time, today at a meeting in Cheboygan. There is an effort to restore some older buildings there, and a fundraising reception was held there today. The story of the burnout was alluded to, and considerable number of people heard about it for what appears to be the first time. You present the story very professionally and factually; I would love to hear more stories from your perspective on these topics, and the struggles of the indigenous people of this area.

I am an attorney who has a cottage on the east side of Burt lake on the only dedicated canal which is due east across the lake from Indian point and am appalled by this injustice known as the great burnout. If there was something I could do to help I would.

Thank you :) I am a decedent through my mother. Because Burt Lake Band still is fighting for federal recognition my mother, grandmother, two uncles are enrolled in Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa. Many of my relatives are buried at the St. Mary's Cemetery including my great grandparents.

Thank you for sharing this history. It is terrible that this happened. We can't sweep these events under the rug, and we need to bring these events and history to light.

Thank you Jessica. A very important bit of history that needs to be kept in the public eye. Petoskey High School history teacher, Rick Wiles, has given presentations at Crooked Tree Arts Council on this subject. That Cheboygan Judge was so corrupt. It would be nice if the families of "Colonial Point" could do something to demonstrate their obvious remorse and regret.

Excellent. Thank you. So sorry for the immoral & unfair way your ancestors & their people were treated & continue to be in so many ways.

Being a northern Michigander myself, I was interested in watching this and found it informative. But it would have been nice to see recent, actual footage of some of these places. I'm curious as to why you didn't have any video and so few photos in the first place, frankly, as I expected as much from the start. So I was disappointed that there was no video and only a few photos, especially considering I know for a fact there are countless photos of this area and its indigenous people from that particular era floating around out there. And taking a road trip to the Burt Lake area and shooting a few videos on your phone would've been very simple to do. Pro tip: Humans are keenly visual creatures who tend to learn more by seeing, watching rather than just listening. More pictures and/or adding video/clips would improve your channel and increase your subscriber rate 1000%
