I noticed too the name of the bus that crashed, "ferryman" is a reference to the Ferryman who takes you on the boat thru the river Styx into Hell, according to Greek mythology. The house fire reminded me of the night Alessa died in Silent Hill Origins. The fog that keeps them there, is like the fog that makes Silent Hill a ghost town of redemption and punishment, aka your own hell

Hard to tell once you come to realize how the story progresses and notice the similarities between the characters and who they represent in both the past and present. Once that is understood and the connection between past and present characters have been made some players say that Mary is evil once they see that she is the doppelganger of Megan while some players, like myself, after meeting the priest for the first time and witness a few cutscenes with him, come to say wait, no, he's the reason for Mary blaming innocents and doing the evil she does. After some time, the ending I got proved my point. Anyway, lol, point being I agree with you in that Mary actually meant no harm to anyone.
