I thought it was a clever way to illustrate the awkwardness of code switching. White people do that too. E.g. when talking to northerners / southerners if you've lived among both. Sometimes it's easier just to be more like them.

The stronger her self denial the more her speech and body language asserted her identity. It was absurd and I've seen people who have done this and it struck me as tragic.

I am from the Caribbean and these skits so resonates with me esp, the nurse taking weight of patients. I had a similar experience. The nurse is obese and when she told me my weight she wanted a reaction. I told her I have a scale at home I know my weight. She did it to the other patients because other women came out upset about their weight.
