It comes from otp which means one true pairing (used to described a "ship"). So adapted to a group like this one, it means that they were the real deal, the one true friendship, if you will. As they were four, hence ot4. But now that they became a trio, it's now ot3. It also works to refer to the period before and after Jesy leaving. 1D fans use ot5 and ot4 to talk about the time before and after Zayn leaving, for example.
