I met David in Melbourne back in about 1995 and it was a pretty funny incident. I had been in Australia for only a few months and I got a job bartending at a bar called The Roxy in Melbourne. There was another bartender named Jo-Anne who worked there. After work we're sitting around having a drink and chatting. I was talking with this guy and he said his girlfriend was Jo-Anne. So we're chatting about music and bands and who we like and a LRB song started playing on the radio. It was Lonesome Loser. I said here's a band I always liked. They were big in Canada and he said "I wrote this song" and I just sorta was like yeah okay. He said honestly, I did write it. Finally I learned that he was David Briggs, a member of LRB and did in fact write the song. It was quite something and it's a funny story I often tell people all these years later. I do remember asking him if he sang on any songs and he said oh no, they would never let me near a microphone. I'm not sure if he meant they wouldn't let him near a microphone because his voice wasn't very good or because they didn't want to share the spotlight. At the time I took it to mean the latter but I can't be sure if that's what he meant.

It's definitely about different opportunities not like the pot of gold that everyone dreamed of and was achievable for bands or solo artists back in the 70s

I believe he left LRB in 1981 not 1991.

If he had stayed until 1991 ,maybe the current situation wouldn't have happened.

How many times did David Briggs get married and divorced? I heard that by the time all his ex wives finished with him, they took away most of his money off him and he was quite poor.

That’s not true.

Excellent guitarist…don’t feel sorry for him..if he still has the publishing for lonesome loser, he cashes a nice little check every few months..
