I’m so glad we made it here! This has been on my bucket list for a while! Not something I expected to see in AL.

Love the canyon. Been kayaking the river since 1989. Bring the scouts up there a couple of times a year. in the winter we hike and explore the canyon, and in the summer we hike down to our secret swimming hole and spend the day jumping into the river and exploring the caves in the river. Always a favorite. They get to jump from different heights. Good place to discuss safety around the water. The river is a lot different without all the water we see in the winter. Amazing what is under that water. Use to camp at Desoto, but quite going there after they put in the all night sodium vapor lights in the campground. Made a few trails to make the hike easier and more scenic. New scouts are always taken back when they see the canyon this way.

There are not many places where it is easy to walk down to the river. I bring the scouts up there every year on their way to summer camp. We hike down to our favorite swimming hole and he parents rest. to get back to the top, some go back the way we came, and some follow the red trail up and out of the canyon. They always love it and want to go back. We have does some other hikes to waterfalls, and climb out at a 60' waterfall. always exciting.
