I love to see more broadways feature mean green mother over bigger than hula hoops. It fixes the empty climax and more satisfying finisher that bigger than hula hoops always makes.

First of all, props for using the movie ending! I can't decide which ending is better, but I've never seen a play do the happy ending before. I liked the plant dancers shoving Seymour around, and that Audrey just runs in and hands him a bomb. But other than that.... so not everyone can be Levi Stubbs, but whoever voiced Audrey II didn't have the vocal power at the pitch he was singing at. And Seymour should have done more, like trying to axe the plant before a 'vine' grabs it from him or something.

Levi stubs is hard surpass. I thought the guy who was in the voice of Audrey 2 in that play production before he was in Disney prince and the frog way back in 2012 our 2013 did a decent job with the voice.

I think I've been spoiled by Levi Stubbs' towering performance as Audrey II. This just wasn't the same... which, oddly enough, is also its greatest strength. Can't go wrong with making a performance your own, after all :)

There’s only one ending to the show. The film version from the 1980s had its own version and ending. But the licensed stage version does not offer this. Whatever production this was, they did this number illegally. This musical number is not offered as part of the stage version when you rent the rights to produce it. So your take on good versus bad is not really a thing.

@stevemacirl The remake movie ending was actually reshot. They did shoot and ending in black were Seymour and Audrey died. But the test audience people said it was too depressing. So rather than risk the movie flopping they reshot it a month later for 2 million additional dollars. They had a lot of complications with that movie because the cage was non existent back then. Including when rick and levi sing there first song.

There are two questions here... one of legality and one of artistic morality. On the first subject there can be no debate, to add or take away entire numbers without permission from either the author or the copyright holder is illegal and could lead to fines or the withdrawal of the contract. On the second subject, well that's a bit more nebulous. I personally would love to do a production that adds in the song for several reasons.

i dont think this ending is very bad, i think it would be better if the plant was better singer and more convicing,but the show itself looks pretty good, i doing a production of this next year and i hope ours looks as good as this!

As much as I'm gonna give them credit for being kids here and going out there and giving a decent job for young performers Whoever was in charge of this production really needs to look at contracts before they do shows. When you rent Little Shop you're doing either the original off Broadway production or the 2003 Broadway production dependant on the licensing you obtain. Neither include MGM in the show or the happy ending, which kinda spoils the whole point of the show. Its a Faustian tale it needs to have a tragic ending. But you can't just change MTI (Music Theatre International - the rights holders) material without the risk of a heavy fine, you're supposed to be performing as written If you really wanna do MGM have it as an encore piece. Then you've completed the show as per contract and you're having a fun little after extension

@stevemacirl After listening to this, I've noticed Audrey II's voice isn't as entertaining as I had hoped. In my opinion, it sounds more as if he's just going through the motions more than owning the part himself. Of course, I myself don't expect the person playing Audrey II's voice to sound like Levi Stubbs, but I feel he should have just had fun with the part for that song. As for koiboi, it's understandable to compare with the movie, but focus on interpretation more than comparison.

I'm not gonna say this is bad, but I will say I would have done a few things different. Actually, If I did do a play of Little shop of Horrors I would have made it a whole unique ending. That in spirit to the original ending of the movie... But anyways, For mean Green mother, I would have done this: 1. In the beginning, Not have the Audrey II-ettes come out all at once, but have them comes out from the shadows, as they do the "pushing back" bit like Audreydid in the movie, different though

Ease up dudes! The song totally works in the context of the show with the original ending - watch the alternate/original movie ending with this song here on KZbin. I hate it when Audrey/Seymour survive. It diminishes the drama/tragedy. Standing by and letting someone die is a crime. Seymour brings about his own demise because of human weakness, greed and desire. I had a real moral problem with the film. In the play, he makes the wrong decisions and loses everything. That's the point.

wtf, i just finished a run of this show and yes we did the movie ending which i dont agree with and in this song seymour killled the plant but seriously there is no energy, our choreography was all partners and livley with lifts , spins and most importantley energy. we were in blakcs with masks and green braclets for leaves and the girls had a green vest on as the focus is the plant. im the last persson to cricies others as i know how much work goes into it all but the plants voice is boringwtf

@stevemacirl Profit or no Profit is moot----Changing the Ending of the show changes the integrity of the Piece. Just because the movie was a done a certain way Most certainly does NOT make it canon. Nobody ever said anywhere that Alice in a blonde girl in a blue dress, yet because "thats how the movie did it" people seem to think she is. Seymore is not supposed to Literally get away with Murder, The show ended a certain way for a reason. Changing it because of the Movie is cowardly, at best.

WHY are all the dancing plants smiling?! They should look angry or something...to actually MAKE Seymour scared and the dance they do? This is not some cheery teenage eistedford - it's a song about taking over the world, destorying it and stuff...they needed to do more movement like they do at 3.50. THAT was ok. The rest was sort of like "Ok...we're doing this because it shows our dancing talent!"...chracterisation needs to be taken into account!
