Yeah I definitely don't see a lot of UK on my radar and I work in music. I learned about Simz a few years back when she was on a television show. Went on IMDB, found out she was musician, and went on a little quest to find her music. I don't how big she is in the UK but there are some fire MCs that should be out here and we just don't get exposed to them unless we search. I hear what you are saying though. I have been telling people for years that Simz is one of the best MCs out here no matter the gender.

***** Completely insensitive gosh!! This is a big deal to be interview on Sway. So most artists would be nervous this one of her first US interviews on such a popular radio station.
@wunademones
@wunademones 9 жыл бұрын
Respectfully, i disagree. She is an artist, it's what her line of work is all about! and for your records little sims has been to the states many times before so it's not totally new to her. My point is she knows how to rock shows and shes a good performer she puts smiles on other artists faces. What's sad is how genuine she is, but we all know sadly some, big record label will probably scoop her up and turn her into one of these typical arrogant us artists like Azaelia how ever you spell her name and Nikki
@Bonitaymorena
@Bonitaymorena 9 жыл бұрын
wunademones Dude shut up!!! Azealia Banks and Nikki are both talented artists. How dare you try to pit female artist against each other simply don't like some of them. Stop with you're misogynistic bullshit. Kanye and every other rapper that came before them were arrogant that a part of hiphop. Not to mention you have to over compensate when you fell insecure sometimes and don't have as much support in the music industry. You have no idea what Azealia or Nikki has a had to go through in an industry who could give to shits about them. Not to mention Azealia abusive childhood and the abusive relationships she was in before blowing up. That would make anyone hardened AND DEFENSIVE!!! People were always coming at her side ways even from the beginning from in 2012. Yet if she was a mane they'd say ohh wow he's funny he's so sarcastic he must be trolling. Which half the time she is. Men can be outspoken obnoxious complex artists and individuals brut if their black they get dragged and called arrogant which sucks. But at least the rest of the industry will try to give them props or someone will try to mentor them. Azealia has received none of that treatment!!! Even when 212 just came out she had to deal with the bullshit from other rappers who just dismissed her for being a dark-skinned girl, called her ugly or they recognized her talent and became intimidated by her and treated her like shit. That would make anyone annoyed and hurt!!! So why don't you actually learn about a person's and look at them with some nuance before you make judgement. I'm not a huge Nicki fan but iI know she's gone through some shit too. But what ever she's doing what she wants with her career and she's successful. Azealia has done everything on her own with only some help from some of her independent label. But all her success has come from her own creativity, song writing ability, the fact that she can perform her ass off and she's toured in Europe and Asia for the past 3 years. Just from realizing an EP and mixtape and once she release an album last November she was alble to tour even more LAST month and sold out her show. Not to mention she's always been consigned by real artist who don't care about mainstream popularity. Thaat's not what give you a long career. Especially for someone like her who is going into jazz in the future and has already be trained in acting as a child/ teenager. Now she's got the starring role in a movie directed by Rza. Little Simz would probably get along with Azealia anyways because Azealia a fan of her music. She only gets defensive with people who attack her but she's getting counselling to deal with her insecurity and anger issues. But honesty with the dynamic life she's lead so far and having very little guidance from adult figures. I'm surprised she's managed to be this successful up this point being so young. So please do not start you're… oh which black girl is more worthier trope!!! Little Simz doesn't need that she can stand on her on two feet. Hiphop was built on bravado. It's like people are solo insecure these days and cannot properly express confidence… especially young black kids growing up having people telling them… .ohhh you're too cocky!!! Dude bye!! You have to love yourself and have confidence if you want to survive in the industry. Because people will turn on you if you're popular !!!!! Having confidence is not wrong!!! Even if some rappers and singers/actors have to overcompensate in the beginning…. they eventually believe in themselves and can relax more once they've grown older and have success and failures and survived through both. But black female artists don't need you pitting them against each other they already have industry people doing that. They need solidarity. It sucks having a mentor female rapper/singer dislike you too which is often what happens if people are intimidated by you. Nikki manage is 31 year old women always you can't compare her level of confidence to little simz and azealia anyways.Their both in their early twenties. Meanwhile Nikki's lived longer and experienced more. I'm not trying to be mean!!! Maybe harsh and I'm okay with that because noeone else seems to stick up for female rappers besides their fans. And call out the blatant misogyny and judgment the receive which is not issued to male rappers who can what the want and people will respect them as complex individuals.

wunademones Are you an artist though. Stop trying to dictate how she's supposed to respond in an interview!! Get off her vagina!!! You're allowed to be nervous she still answered all their questions thoroughly. Even artists who've been working longer than her like D'angelo get nervous because they know journalists want to be pick and prose their brains. She handled her self fine. She'll only improve as time goes on. But just stop she doesn't need to be a chatty cathy!!! You have to leave some mystery about yourself as a artist in the beginning because it incises people. Even in everyday life. But as the years go bye she grow into herself as a woman and an artists and feel more comfortable expressing herself.
