I worked at the Nat West in Fore Street for many years in the seventies and have very happy memories of the pubs and shops. Strangely, when visiting my in laws in 2010 I took a video in reverse order, ending up walking along the towpath on Folly Island and back into town, couldn't believe how it had changed in 40 years, mostly but not entirely for the better. Thanks for the memories.

Hertford is a beautiful town and I lived there from 2009 to 2021. Unfortunately the town is now plagued by anti-social behaviour and drugs, in particular the area you have shown in this video (Hertford East), which is part of the reason we moved away. Hertford East train station is part of the county lines drug problem where the town has been swamped by drug dealers from London, in particular Enfield and Edmonton. Mead Lane and Claude Hamilton Way (as shown in your video) are frequently the subject of raids by the Police, and the Police helicopter routinely flies over the area at night. if you watch 24 Hours in Police Custody you'll see one of the drug dealers who ran his business from Mead Lane. Appearances can be deceptive of this nice town.

Ah yes, my old home. I would really love to return to the isles someday, unfortunately I’m stuck in the states :/ Anyways, thanks for giving me this little taste of home, it’s astounding how much I remembered. Man, the nostalgia!
