This corner of China is much colder than Berlin because it is close to the Pole of Cold. The Pole of Cold is located in Yakutia, which has the coldest winter temperatures in the Northern Hemisphere. Both Berlin and Liverpool are warmer because the Gulf Stream passes through the Atlantic Ocean not far from them. The Gulf Stream is a warm current that moderates the climate in Northern Europe. That is why there is such a big difference in temperature at the same latitude in the Northern Hemisphere.

Re the coldness of Mohe versus Berlin and Liverpool ... the Gulf Stream, which is a warm ocean current, brings warmer than average water to the west coasts of the UK and the European continent, which makes it more temperate than similar locations inland. But the other reason is, as mentioned in the video, the fact that cold air masses can move unimpeded from the Artic Ocean to the Mohe region. The polar air masses behave similarly across central Canada, and often into the Central United States.

Yes, you're right, the coldness is due to the cold Siberian air in winter, whereas western Europe is surround by waters and warmer air comes from the Atlantic. The accomodation you stayed in looked so clean, despite being in the middle of nowhere. It's fascinating to see a blend of Russian and Chinese cultures. They went to a lot of work to create this soil, and it had many kinds of life in it. After I used the bulk of it to fill my elevated garden beds, I had the guys spread the rest over the rest of the yard to give it a bit of vitality. Now, every morning when I walk the dog, there are many kinds of mushrooms in different places. There are a few old tree stumps in the yard, they have the best looking mushrooms. They look like some sort of natural works of art.

The reason why Siberian cities are so much colder than those in Western Europe despite being at the same latitude is not because Siberia is unnaturally cold, but that places like London are unnaturally warm. Northwest Europe is warmed up by the Jetstream that bring warm air from the south Atlantic. If that Jetstream breaks down, then London will become just as cold as Siberia.
@feiryfellaАй бұрын
You mean the ocean current called the Gulf Stream.
@azrael631Ай бұрын
Not really, In winter, the land cools sharply, unlike water, which can give off heat for a long time, softening frosts. Also, the mountains lying between the warm air masses from the south and Siberia do not allow warm air to pass through, consolidating the cold climate. Siberia has only Baikal but on such vast space it's not enough.
