Real trees tend to be a bit more expensive than fake ones, especially when you consider how it's a new one each year rather than one used multiple times. they're basically going "Oh you had a REAL tree? Oh so you rich huh?" Then also trying to imply that his family having a real tree meant his family owned a LOT of trees, and then a whole forest. (considering the area he (and san) are from has a bunch of big national forests/parks, not that far out there)
