Pinegrove - "New Friends" Live at Little Elephant (1/3)

I flew to Toronto to see this band in a bar that can only be described as the textbook definition of a hole-in-the-wall, and they put on the best performance I have ever seen. I'm still young, like real young, and I've only just started leaving home with the express purpose of seeing bands and immediately returning but if I could only recommend one band to you, I would put my heart into telling you about Pinegrove. For the record, they were as excited to see me as I was to see them. Pinegrove: An incomparable experience.

Pinegrove has zero bad songs. I struggle to think of another artist who has shown the same consistency in songwriting quality, and they JUST KEEP GETTING BETTER

They were supposed to play this local bar, promoter was being a weenie, so a buddy of mine got them into this church and we sat in the pews and watched a fucking killer set. It was awesome

Evan wrote about “New Friends” in his reddit AMA in March 2016. i think new friends is in part about how when you connect yourself deeply to a person sometimes it’s at the exclusion of your other people. & what happens when you and your partner break up? lookin up once the dust has settled and realizing you forgot to water your other relationships & now they’re wilty

Love Pinegrove and this rendition of New Friends. Hopefully they will have a long career with many albums. My only critic for them is sometimes they have a great hooks inside just OK songs (e.g the cool uptempo riff inside Recycling), but I think they have a potential to pen excellent songs and albums.

Not 100% sure but normally sessions like this are one live take. They usually do a couple takes of each song and pick the best one. Unless the band is playing to a click it’s a lot of work to patch different takes together and match it all up with video
