Long, long ago, in a faraway, frozen iceland, lived a young boy named Lucian. Lucian was a small boy, smaller than most his age. And had the most peculiar pale skin and piercing blue eyes. He was also very thin and gangly, with a soft featured face. His village lived on neutral land, unclaimed by any nation. For who could want a land with such unforgiving and harsh climate. And the people weren't much better. Lucian had a special love for books and any kind of knowledge. He loved to study the world all around him and make his own conclusions. Unfortunately, the village was very small, and therefore did not contain a school. This did not bother Lucian though, as his mother always made sure he had the books he wanted to be able to read and learn more. All was going okay for Lucian, the other kids didn't like him much, but that didn't bother him; he preferred the yaks anyways. It wasn't very much longer when tragedy struck. His mother came down with white-cough, a life threatening sickness that spread quickly and took many lives. She was quickly isolated, there was nothing they could do for her, but try to stop it from spreading. Lucian wasn't able to see his mother when she passed, nor was he allowed at her burial. After that, life got pretty rough for Lucian. He didn't have a father, or any other family, so he spent his days trying to survive on his own. No one would take another mouth to feed, not when times were hard enough for them as it was. Then it got worse, he began becoming to target of many practical jokes and not-so-friendly fights. Everyday he had some kind of new wound to try to take care of. Sometimes the old widows would take pity on him and give him a loaf of bread, but never anything more. He managed to survive, spending most his nights in snow caves he had dug out. Then the dragon attacks started. First it was a single, young ice dragon. Raiding the village, not doing anything more than taking a few sheep or the odd yak. But soon enough, more dragons started appearing, but these weren't ice dragons, they were ancient fire dragons, outfitted in shiny diamond armour that reflected the light off the snow. And they destroyed and burned houses and crop fields to the ground. Soon, the small ice dragon stopped trying to raid the village, assumed to have been killed by the larger, more formidable fire dragons. Lucian, who hated the village who had shunned him when he had no place else to go, was out hunting one day, when he stumbled upon a spire of ice reaching high into the sky. Deciding to see where it went, he started climbing it. It was tougher going, and he almost slipped multiple times, but he made it. At the top, there was an ice dragon. A young one. In fact, it was the very one that had raided his village. He froze, unsure of what to do. The dragon seemed to be dead, but he could detect a faint rise and fall of it's flank. Large, deep gashes were scored down the dragons sides, blue blood weeping sluggishly from the wounds. Lucian felt pity for the dragon, refusing to do what the village had done to him and shun the dragon. He climbed down and spent the rest of the day hunting. He managed to get enough food to tempt the dragon into eating. This quickly became his daily routine, as well as cleaning the wounds of the dragon. He had quickly gained the ice dragons trust, choosing to called him Wynter, in memory of his mother. Wynter quickly gained strength and soon was strong enough to fly again. Because of the strong bond between Wynter and Lucian, they were able to fly together. Lucian didn't know what to do, everything he had was gone now. There were a few people left in the ruins of his village, but he refused to return to them. He set out, soon spreading the word and finding more people. They built the Unofficial Ice Nation together. One day, Lucian was out taking care of Wynter, their sole dragon, when some young men approached him. These men were strangers, half starved and frozen to death. They begged for shelter; revealing after further questioning that they were indeed the boys who had beat Lucian when they were younger. Lucian thought it over for a long time, and decided to show them mercy, allowing them to stay in the Ice Nation. Those men are now among his most trusted soldiers. After he showed them mercy, they began to look up to him, seeing that he was a strong leader and regretting what they had done to him. *{I hope you enjoyed!!!!
