Welsh is actually phonetically very consistent: each letter has its own sound and this sound does not (often [editted]) vary according to the letters next to it. However, the sound for each letter is not what you might expect if you were raised speaking English. That's where the confusion comes in.

Worcester is pronounced "wooster", but "Leominster" is pronounced "lemster". In general, "-cester" is almost always pronounced "-ster" with some exceptions if there are two or more syllables before it (e.g. "Cirencester" is pronounced "siren-sester"). Also, "-burgh", "-borough" are pronounced "-bruh" (like you're a frat boy), and "-shire" is not stressed (it's treated as part of the same word e.g. "Cambridgeshire" is pronounced "came-bridge-shuh"/"came-bridge-sher" not "came-bridge-shire"). Once you know those three rules you won't get screwed over too much by most of our place names

Hey! I love the Unsolved Network! On a random note: You guys actually made me wonder about if the Life Straw could filter ocean water so I looked it up. The Life Straw cannot filter out salt, chemicals, or viruses. It filters stuff like dirt and other particles that you could find in a river or lake, but it cannot turn salt water into fresh water. So yeah, there you go!
