Don’t get me wrong-I’m not saying Liu Bang was a saint-but Xiang Yu was way worse of a human being during his struggle with Liu Bang (look up his numerous massacres which Liu Bang wisely never did) and way, way worse of a leader/administrator/ruler. Literally the only thing he did better than Liu Bang was tactics, and even then some of Liu Bang’s generals matched him. I seriously doubt that, had Xiang Yu become emperor, he would have created a more stable dynasty that bettered Chinese people and civilization.

Not really. Different people work on different strength. Wu Ze Tian was not a people person, but she know how to charm the right one person. Qing dynasty Yongzheng was as icy as a metal bar in the winter, but he was no lesser than his father Kang Xi or Qian Long. Yongzheng is known to keep people away at arm length. Even his own family was as close as a stranger to him.

Great video! However, the "sinking one's ships" idiom is I feel directly analogous to "burning the boats" which is taken from the Aeneid and also was supposedly done when Cortes reached the Americas. It is to make an action which intentionally prevents retraction, in the belief that it will harden one's resolve. Crossing the Rubicon is more about a daring forward motion from which one cannot return.

Fun and interesting storytelling!!! So many details I never heard of ^_^ I was just reading about this period of history and honestly, Xiang Yu seemed like a brave and courageous warrior/leader (besides not caring about supply lines and letting Zhang Liang take his resources later on) but this guy was totally screwed over. All because Han Xin is the biggest bastard! Liu Bang doesn't seem much better either...making a treaty and quickly breaking it...but still Han Xin is the biggest villain in Xiang Yu's story it seems like(instigating Liu Bang to fight him, stealing his concubine, lying, deception, etc...) So because Xiang Yu didn't give Han Xin the respect he thought he deserved he ends up leaving him to serve Liu Bang. Later on Han Xin almost gets Liu Bang killed by withholding forces but Zhang Liang saves the day I guess. Xiang Yu apparently even told Han Xin to be wary of Liu Bang and how he would end up his downfall, and wouldn't you know it a few years after helping Liu Bang unify China and become emperor, the Emperor's wife orchestrates his death. I would love to see more of this fascinating story! o0o yay part 2 already exists!

How everything favored LiuBang. According to historians study/analyzed At the time XiangYu victory over the Qin’s main force and LiuBang took XiangYang. The mission had considered accomplished. And it was time to decide how the new kingdom should be run next. As the major victory were XiangYu , he was the one had to decide but politically forced to avoid Qin’s dinasty way by united the entire land under one kingdom and himself as the emperor like QinShiHuang did. the moment it was seen as evil path that done by Qin, and the people just had enough. The idea of united under empire was still new and the first one was considered as evil where cause the suffering of the people which is why they fight and just break free from it. There was no other option left rather to make it back to federation stylr where was same by previous empire As soon as the nations were divided again, where XiangYu’S Chu act as the central, The chaos had come back and people saw this as returning to the time like Spring Autumn 6kingdoms with endless war and suffering. Remember Qin dinasty were short, most people were still the one experience directly of 6kingdoms warring era. The politically failure done by XiangYu had set the example and the reason to be united under one empire is now clear than ever before. And it is the same time where LiuBang gain the victory over XiangYu. That’s how LiuBang could proclaim himself as emperor without having any serious challenge from other factions.

Xiang Yu ordered the destructing on cooking utensils and had the men on dried rations. Once they had reached their destination, he ordered the boats be sunk and told the men that the only way to survive was to fight. His men became greatly motivated to win and survived the battle with the Qin army. As a result, Xiang YU's much smaller army had defeated a much larger Qin army.
