2:05 this right here. Liu Bei listed for power like most warlords of the time. He is not the virtuous, do-no-wrong leader that so many ROTK fanboys believe. The real Liu Bei was just a cunning, opportunistic throne seeker. He betrayed or took advantage of almost everyone he came in contact with. Sun Quan and Cao Cao were actually really good leaders in their prime; funny how many people hold Liu Bei in such high regard but view Cao Cao and Sun Quan as evil or traitorous.
@History_of_China4 жыл бұрын
I agree with you. In my opinion, I would say Cao Cao achieved power through logic, Liu Bei trough charm, and Sun Quan through the sense of duty.
@memesa23124 жыл бұрын
Liu Bei didn’t commit one of the biggest genocides in Chinese history or buried surrendered troops alive. That might have something to do with it. Ya hear that, Cao Cao?
@freelanceart10194 жыл бұрын
@@memesa2312 Cao Cao was not an evil man, he was very virtuous to his officers, subordinates and some adversaries like Xu Shu, and Sima Yi. Cao Cao implemented many rice land reform policies that favoured peasantry owning lands. However, during ChiBi he made very arrogant foolish decisions which caused alot of grief amongst the common folk governed population.
@ktttttt4 жыл бұрын
That was because Luo Guanzhong wrote Romance of the Three Kingdoms during the Ming Dynasty in which Liu Bei was deemed as the legitimate successor to the Han Dynasty. He based it on folklore and Chinese operas which supported Liu Bei and disliked Cao Cao. Besides, Luo Guanzhong idolised Zhuge Liang, Liu Bei's advisor.
@velstadtvonausterlitz23382 жыл бұрын
Didn't cao cao commits genocide left and right? Did Liu Bei ever commit genocide on such a scale? Liu Bei having ambition as a young man is not a great basis to determine his overall character.

Talk about snakepit politics. Is there a single one of these guys who could be considered at all trustworthy? For that matter, was loyalty of this sort considered a social norm among the powerful at the time? These guys seem awfully quick to forgive each other's betrayals and take former enemies into their service. Can anyone provide insight? I'm honestly curious. Also, amazing work as always, HoC! I love how you're refining your visual style. :)

Thank you ! About your question, I think Sun Zi's Art of War mentions how you can enlist enemy generals and agents by paying them more and treating them better than their previous employer. Historical China is very different than Japan in that matter, as it was often normal to change allegiance. In more stable periods of Imperial China however, defecting was more frowned upon.

It's something called Pinyin, literally translating to 'spelling sounds.' There have been romanizations of Mandarin Chinese for centuries, however the current official form was made in 1958 by the Chinese govt. It mostly resembles English pronunciation except for the following differences: Q = 'ch' X = 'sh' A = 'ah' I = 'ee' E = 'eh' or 'er'
