this breakup scene is surprisingly well-written and well acted for a kids show. Any other disney shows would just make one of the characters do something bad in order to break a couple up (like jesse cheating on miley, spencer cheating on ted, or mason being possessive over alex). in this case, both liv and holden have valid reasons to be upset with one another. Liv has a lot on her plate, and it would be unfair to expect her to drop everything she cares about just to make holden happy. But on the other hand, holden deserves to be with someone who puts as much effort into a relationship as he does, which is something liv couldn't do at this point. This is a pretty realistic depiction of a couple breaking up, where not everything is black and white, and that sometimes couples don't work out because they want different things.

For example, when Parker was getting adjusted to go to high school, Maddie was the only one showing any sort of sign of welcoming him. Maddie asks how Parker’s day went, she even let him win a game of sock hockey and she lets him take the credit. How is that selfish? Also, what about her knee injury? She could not play basketball for god knows how long and that cost her the state championship. Going through that injury gave her some character development and telling her to curb her competitiveness. I even hate the hate people give towards miggie. That breakup and them getting back together...is actually kinda the point to sustaining a long term relationship? Do not get me wrong, Maddie and josh are great for each other...but they barely had any sort of conflict in their relationship which made it sort of a summer fling...per se. I would not say it would be an end game scenario for me, if they had conflict which they would eventually resolve, then their relationship works long term to endgame. Miggie has that and that is why I think it is a good relationship.

Liv led Holden on until he broke up with the other girl, put him on hold for Voltage, lied about the relationship to spare herself from the media, then disregarded Holden's feelings for Maddie in hopes of saving Diggy (who Maddie was Not Even Dating)...who soon found out anyway, and he and Maddie got back together and lived happily ever after while Liv and Holden were miserable! Like, seriously?!?! I understand caring about family, but caring goes both ways. ​​@@truthseeker9249Yeah we have been staying in touch. She quit the Navy last year. She told me 2 years ago she could've been my girlfriend if she wasn't pregnant by accident. I'm a god mother to her 2 boys. One is 2 years older than her second one. She just had her second baby ❤️. What is very special though is that we still have feelings for each other and everything. And we will always be friends and family until we are in heaven. What is important too is that Lilly and I will always love each other and everything. She's always treated me differently than some of my friends. Because she's always worried about me and she's always loved and will always love me so much. She loves me so much that I'm very important to her❤. And I'm grateful for that 💖

Here’s my thought: They’re both in the wrong. OK OK HERE ME OOOOOUT! I can already see people getting upset. Let’s address Liv first. Live kept putting other things before her relationship with Holden and instead of making things right, she ended up hurting Holden and herself. It doesn’t matter who asks you to do something. Don’t jeopardize yourself to make another person happy. Now Holden. Holden was mostly in the right here, but he wanted to make Liv his everything. He knew that Liv had so many things going on and that she couldn’t give him her everything. He has every right to be mad about being put on the back burner and not having been made a priority. To have her be his everything though was eventually going to lead to heartbreak. You can not have a person be your everything. They will make mistakes, they will fail you, they may even leave you, and it will CRUSH you. Be happy in yourself and don’t rely on someone else for that happiness

I'd argue that for Holden, he means that he wants to be able to invest as much as he can into her. Liv was just juggling between so many things and time management wasn't the issue. It's a matter of establishing emotional priorities. For Holden, he didn't have any family members that would want to intercept with his relationship with Liv. But Liv, she did and it was a matter of making her partner happy vs protecting her sisters ex's feelings. Her actions made it seem like she cared about Diggie's hurt feelings more than hurting Holden. That was the last straw.

He felt like everything else mattered more to her than their relationship. Holden was putting Liv and their relationship first, and Liv wasn't reciprocating that.
