@SMacCuUladh Жыл бұрын
The biggest factor in humanity levelling up over time has been Christianity. There isn't much of a desire for that these days though.
@narunoir9767 Жыл бұрын
@@SMacCuUladh It was just morphed into social groups. World of warcraft guilds, discord servers, Facebook groups. They all offer a similar life reward. People are social and enjoy groups of others who are doing the same things . The church used to be the general community center. But through scandal and greed many people lost all their trust in said churches. The idea is still solid, worship life, a deity, and the general greatness of humanity. But the church must also accept that life has changed a LOT since its peak. Mostly for the better, but not all. People could certainly use a group that they could trust to actually be helpful to the community, understanding, honest, and a source of inspiration.

I have been messing around with electronics, and building computer devices for a few years now. I am recently learning how to fly quad copters, and that 'white noise' that Liv talked about is exactly what I am attempting to tame, while I race an expensive quad around. Keeping my body and brain at that zen level of calm, while at the same time making split second decisions at speeds that are only recently attained at first person from the human perspective. I have broken more of them than I would like, but I have to say, I am so very grateful for having access to a simulator. Even in simulator, that fight or flight is not easy to tame, but is a much less expensive way to get it together!

I love that you said that the biggest lessons were from life not school. I’ve done both and I was the first in all generations to finish high school and college. Higher Education was a mystery to me. I found that my father was right. You can learn all you need to learn in a library. I’m still grateful to have my education. However, I do believe, my main education came from being a service worker, a life watcher and my traveling. Xo

Yes, a person can definitely improve themselves in the Library, and I understand that the current meme is that college degrees are worthless, but I think the knowledge I got in Engineering school far surpasses the knowledge that I just randomly picked up in the past 30 years, and I think it would have been difficult to master the subjects I learned in college in the local library. Also.many, many jobs are not even approachable without a degree. If you have a college degree and no job, your degree is Philosophy or Literature.

About redesigning society/technology: as long as centralization of doing things is the paradigm, things will continue to spiral downward. The reason that is true is centralization puts control in the hands of fewer and fewer people and that is counterproductive. There is less chance of competent control. We need to find decentralized ways of getting things done. The more people in control, the better the potential outcome because of the increased chance of competent people in control.

This is a brilliant conversation: Their desire to come together to exchange ideas. Their love of learning. Liv's infectious energy (even Lex gets caught up in it). All swirls together loud and clear.

Thank you for another amazing, entertaining, educational meeting of the minds Lex. When I was young school was about getting A's that was the game. I'm sure some knowledge managed to seek into my brain but I was not actively trying to be inquisitive. It is pod cast such as this one that has brought from ambers forth a flame of hunger for knowledge and knowing about as much variety of people as possible for that I'm eternally grateful, Lex. You're outlook of love for humanity paired with intrigue of what can be created is a beautiful lens to see the world through.

I don't know if I'm feeling a kinship with Lex, or a basic attraction to Liv, or their attraction to each other, but I REALLY enjoyed this conversation. There's a theme or feeling of flirtation as you two clearly enjoyed discussing every single detail that you bounced to and from. Thank you both!

The concept Liv was attempting to articulate is - The infinite realm of ideation. Long live Liv! Also I am one of those people that spent one eventful night 25 years ago inventing the Game of Life. (Liv calls "win-win") it is not a traditional game, as in, there's always a winner and always a looser, but rather all players are encouraged to win and if we don't all win than we all loose. This computer game is worldwide is meant to last for years or perhaps forever. In the mean time the actual world improves incrementally by literally implementing the games solutions one by one. Also it's a huge program requiring massive computing power. Will you join?

I am certainly no expert on poker but i have played enough to learn that many players assume everyone else plays the same way they do. Identifying and exploiting those players is a huge game changer. And it translates to modern politics and people's fears and concerns when making policy. They are so myopic in their macro level viewpoint and oblivious how transparent they truly are.

This is one of the great weaknesses of human cognition: our difficulty modelling the minds of other agents. We tend to assume others' minds are the same as ours as a strategy to simplify our cognitive load, because our brain wants to consume fewer calories. On top of that, many of us are simply bad at empathising (in the sense of being inaccurate or lacking intuitive insight into how someone else is thinking & feeling). The net result is we live in a very self-dominated bubble and make a lot of sub-optimal decisions.

@@liquidsnakex For the time that'd be spent learning rather than paying a mortgage. I just took a month and a half off to focus and learn a new piece of software; a sabatical is very expensive. True mastery of a tool is not picked up from KZbin, it comes from experience (time). Most people already have some degree of Golden Handcuffs on their time, its possible but most people's time is already budgeted for the life they're currently living ( house + family ). Students and young adults are free from these constraints and your point is a bit idealistic.

BEST GUEST EVER!!! She filled in so many gaps in so many things I have been lacking in but haven’t had the chance to search for the answers! I am blown away by this guest and how her thinking was so similar to mine, yet so different, and hearing her take things out to conclusions, or her current understanding anyway, was really insightful! She obviously had info from her connections that I did not have, not that I couldn’t have found it, so that’s no excuse . . . But it is fascinating to see how that influenced her thinking. Now I have so much more to contemplate and so much more insight to help me to understand anything else I learn about. This gives me better tools for parsing out fact from fiction. And to top it all off she has excellent taste in music, her favorite metal bands are my favorite metal bands! I guess this should actually be no surprise, since they are the most popular-except, like she says, most people seem to think you have to like one or the other-which is crazy, and is another example of nickelback phenomenon-like fear of going against the group causing people to keep something they like secret due to fear of being ostracized or made fun of. Which sort of fits in with what was discussed on this podcast, although tangentially. Also, she is very . . . Unintentionally seductive? Anyway, she is really easy to like, and a very beautiful person on the inside and out. Shut up, perverts. You know what I mean. And I’m happily married, so no offense to Igor.

I've been reading "Probablility Theory: The logic of science" by E.T. Jaynes. It's a 800 pages long textbook but it is such a treat to read. I get so absorbed by the incredibly excellent writing. Makes you wanna learn the subject even if you find it terribly hard to understand. This is how you write textbooks.
