I went to Seville on July 2023. The level of love I have for this city, I cannot explain. It was hot but I did not feel the heat as much. There were moments that I felt like crying of happiness there! Hoping to be able to move there in the near future! ❤ My favorite city in the world!

@AmeliaAndJP I wanted to share with you about my experience when touching fruit and vegetables at a stand in Nerja, Spain. Same thing happened, so I asked two of my local friends. They both said that it is considered poor manners to handle the produce at a private market. You see, they work on the premise of trust and personal recommendation when buying their fresh produce and fish. This is why you will see a bunch of different vendors selling the same thing in a market, and the patrons always go to the same vendor they’ve been going to for years. Even though there are many others. They trust the one vendor to tell them the truth. Another interesting element of the Spanish culture is that it is actually very structured. They have a lot of rules, even for little things, and they follow them judiciously - especially the older ones. It’s even more so in northern Spain! So your experience about where you were seating is a result of one of those rules. So it isn’t that they weren’t friendly, it was just you were violating one of their rules. And they really frown on violating rules. That is why it is a safe place and kids can be out at late at night and so on.

And I don’t think that happens only in Spain. I had a similar experience in a street market in London. Apparently the convention is that you have to ask the grocer for whatever you are looking for. You can’t just take it yourself.

If you are tourist, how are you supposed to know those rules? I know these vendors realize you don't so they should be a little gentler with their "notification".

It's the same in Boston Massachusetts USA. At the Haymarket, which has vendors with push carts, the vendors pick which pieces you get. This is because if the customer chooses, at the end of the day, only the bruised or ugly pieces will be left

Seville is absolutely beautiful, as you've mentioned. I've been there once (currently live in Madrid) and had a wonderful time. Corte Ingles isn't a mall, but a department store with multiple levels. They are all over Spain, as are the small Chinese dollar store type stores (called tiendas Chinas). Another great thing about Sevilla is that there's a Costco there.

I brought my Costco card just to get in there and take a peek. Silly itinerary item but sometimes we just have to have some. In 6 weeks living in Sevilla I never had the time to get there. Too many other things to do. Me encanta Sevilla

We just returned from Seville. Amazing city, very safe and the food unbelievable. We loved the Alcazar, the Setas, Plaza de Espana, the architecture, etc. all was so good. We stayed for 3 days and was not enough so we definitely will be back in Seville

We love all of Andalusia but especially the White Hill towns-Jerez de la Frontera being our favorite. We spent a few weeks in Cadiz which was heavenly. It’s on the water and only a half hour boat ride to Morocco where we spent a fabulous month. I hope you can take the time to explore that area. It is utterly delightful.

I am from the part of Spain named The Natural Paradise (Asturias), Asturians and Andalusians always compete to be voted the most friendly and nicer people of Spain but for me the most beautiful city in Spain is Sevilla, although nowadays Madrid and Valencia are becoming incredibly beautiful with a great balance between the old and the new.

We were there the week after Easter weekend talk about people ! But what a great city ,don’t forget Spain gets 90 million tourists per year unlike central and South America ! We used the buses between cities,maybe slower but one third the price,the views of the countryside was spectacular,seats were reserved not the high speed train blur!

You are there at the right time of year, Seville gets really hot in the summer. Safety seems like a important thing to you, I hope you find a place where you feel comfortable. Spain has an amazing culture. During the summer Northern Spain is better less hot and not so touristy. You need to get to England for the good Indian food.

You are right during summer time most pople go to the north of Spain ( Galicia, Asturias,Cantabria and Basque country) specially during july and August , now due to climate change is very hot in the central and south of Spain ,and yes in autuum , winter and spring is a good time to stay in the south , good comment.

My wife and I were in Sevilla first week of October this year, thinking things would have cooled down by then. The temps every day were 39C/100F and it seemed to be more humid than equally hot Granada. I also saw a video recently referring to Andalusia as the Iberian Oven. I can believe it!

We made the mistake of visiting in July! The heat was so unbearable that we ended up spending as long as we could in the outdoor restaurants to take advantage of the overhead misters.🤣

I'm staying near Malaga this month. It's OK...what I like the most is that it's well connected to visit other towns in Andalucia and the Costa del Sol. I really liked Granada, so I hope that's a place you chose to visit. I prefer the cooler weather in the mountains (although I know it still gets hot in summer, but not quite as bad as Seville). My very favorite city of all is Valencia, but it's become more crowded and expensive unfortunately.

We were in Sevilla in mid June 2022 and we really enjoyed it there but it was HOT with temperatures around 40C (104F). We were also quite taken by the strong Moorish architecture and influence you see throughout Spain to this day.

I have not visited Sevilla yet. But I am from Cuenca-Ecuador, living in Berlin and considered living in Spain a few times. Once visited Barcelona, because it is big like Berlin and well 2 months forward we decided against it. It is just not so friendly and too touristy, simply not a fit for us. Then we visited Valencia and it reminded me of Cuenca a bit, because you get to places so quickly, you can walk around everywhere, it is calmed, it is not as popular, so while there are tourist, it is not tourist overcrowded... and the people are just SO NICE. After Barcelona we thought people in Spain were not as friendly as in Ecuador... but Valencia... is something else. Look it up and visit it! Lots of people fall in love with the city! It has beach and loooots of green and very modern architecture here and there, while old one too... I dream of spending my winters there. 😍 Also about the tipping... in Europe there is no tipping on the bill but everyone just says before you pay how much you want to tip and they add this on the total, cash or on the card. It is about 5% to 20% :) depending on the service, and everywhere usually, from coffee places to restaurants hehe Spain is the same 😁

I discovered Flamenco dance shows in Seville. We went to a tiny place called Tablao Flamenco Los Gallos. Twenty years later I still seek out and attend Flamenco performances, even here in Bangkok this year. Something you may have to get used to in Spain is that they take their afternoon siestas seriously. Everything closed down from about 12-4 and then opened up until late at night. Dinner or some late night meals start very late at night. I'm not a late night person so I'm not sure how well I would adapt to that living time schedule. Otherwise the city is vibrant and beautiful and the food is outstanding. I haven't been there in 20 years so I'm sure it has changed and is more expensive.

Haven't been to Seville yet but two other trips to Spain were incredible, Valencia and Alicante were my favourite. I can definitely see us living there and are hoping to visit again next year combined with some time in southern France. The high speed rail is so good :).

We tried to go to the oldest bar in Seville which was close to our hotel and every time we went it was something-closed for a private party, etc. All we wanted to do was have a drink at the oldest bar. I love Spain. Mass transit there is so great. I’d like to check out Salamanca and Zaragoza as places to live.

I used to live in Sevilla, there’s a story to the cobblestone streets of the city center. Back in early 90’s all streets were paved with asphalt. The City then decided to tear all of it to uncover the old cobblestones just for the quaint looks. During the 60’s they had gone through the opposite fad and tore down historical buildings to replace them with bland, modern buildings. Fortunately they eventually changed their mind in the 90’s and went the opposite route of restoring and preserving the historic architecture. Some decried the “disneyfication” of the city, and the growing tourism. Sevilla is indeed the most romantic city in Spain, so beautiful and diverse, the mix of architecture and trees and parks and centuries old taverns. The biggest drawback indeed is how many tourists it attracts. I was there right after they lifted Covid restrictions for EU countries, it was so much more enjoyable to walk around.

I hope you went to the roof of that El Corte Inglés. It’s a terrace restaurant with phenomenal views of the city. I lived in Sevilla for 6 weeks about 5 min walk north of that location. Even the Aldi across the street from it was amazing. Highly recommend it.

Mediterranean culture generally is up later. One of the reasons is to take advantage of the cooler temperatures of the evening. Even during Roman times the activities went way later into the night that is currently the case for N. Europe and US/Canada.

Foreigners expect spanish people to talk to them immediately and integrate them as soon as they see them. That happens when you have a huge stereotype. We tend to treat them as we treat here each other. It's nothing special being a foreigner here, so common. So, in order to integrate, they are the ones that need to be noticed for their interest to integrate.

We owned an apartment that we rented as a vacation home for a few years in Marbella which is a nice small coastal city. When we visited Seville, we loved it and especially the downtown area. Our observations and likes and dislikes were similar to yours. I think I could live there becuase after working in the Middle East and living in Phoenix, the heat in Seville summer is tolerable to me.

Supongo que los sevillanos tienen familia o amigos en zonas más frescas a los que pueden visitar. Pero para nosotros los extranjeros quedarnos en un hotel o Airbnb en la sierra o en el norte más que poco tiempo costaría una fortuna.

Aquí la gente tiene segunda residencia en la playa, hacen diferentes viajes y/o casa de amigos o familiares en la playa

So cool you guys got to Granada y Sevilla! We were there first week in October and it was 39C/100F every day! We also got to Granada and Cordoba which were just as hot but Granada seemed less humid. Both very much worth it for the Alhambra and the Mosque Cathedral respectively. We also got to Madrid Toledo and Barcelona. A book I read said Barcelona feels the least like Spain and it is much more of a European feeling city with fewer pedestrian streets but cooler weather being Oceanside. Another added surprise there is that Catalan is the primary language with Spanish second and Catalan is a mix of Spanish and French but with logical (to English and Spanish speakers) spelling.

The 800 years that are always mentioned relate to the entire time in which there were Moorish kingdoms in the Peninsula, but not the entire Peninsula was under Moorish rule all that time, far from it. The last kingdom to fall was that of Granada, in 1492, we can only talk about 800 years there.

El Corte Ingles is a major chain, stores tend to be huge and they sell appliances, kitchen cabinets, China and luxury brands, in Malaga they have a rooftop cafe with sweeping vistas of the city. As always enjoyed your tour of Sevilla, beautiful town.

We love Spain and wanted to move there until we spoke to 3!different tax professionals in Spain and discovered that income taxes and annual wealth taxes are exorbitant. Yes you are credited what you pay in the U.S. but normal income tax rates (we are retired) are 30+% for international income (eg dividends, pensions, etc) plus in most parts of Spain - there is an annual wealth tax of around 2% on your net assets (even if all assets are in U.S.). We calculated we’d be paying $1000 per month just in extra Spanish income taxes……

Sevilla and Quito are my 2 favorite cities in the world! I was born in Quito and Sevilla somehow seems like Quito's big sister. My favorite neighborhood is barrio Santa Cruz (part of the old Jewish quarter).

We stayed in Nervion which was a real neighborhood WITHOUT tourists! It's the only place to live with tons of shopping and close to the metro. Very affordable and super friendly. City center is 10 minutes by Metro. Probably the best place to live in Sevilla,

I have been to Cuenca and Seville, hands down I prefer Seville. Both cities have beautiful architecture but there is so much more in Seville. There are no beautiful parks in Cuenca. I speak Spanish which surprised many of the people (I am a blonde, green eyes)I chatted with, I found them to be super friendly. I definitely could spend my fall/winter in Seville.

Beautiful videos of many of my favorite places in that wonderful city. Thank you for including some history highlights along with other observations. I would caution you against comparing one city and country to others you have visited. Each city should be judged on its own merits, not held up against those of other cities in other countries. Going into a new area and expecting it to be like somewhere else you've been is what I find most offensive in many tourists I've run into. Please try to keep the comparisons to a minimum.

Great video, I have been living in Sevilla for the past year and you pretty much nailed it. It's very safe , amazing architecture, great food, takes locals a little bit to warm up to foreigners and it's very hot in the summer. In fact, I'm probably moving to Malaga before next summer where it might be 93 degrees and Sevilla will be 107 or hotter. But Sevilla is overall an amazing city.

I lived in Spain for about 8 months but it was a long time ago. Before the word "overtourism" existed. El Corte Inglés is an upscale department store chain in Spain. In several parts of Latin America I've seen El Corte Inglés products available in supermarkets. I've been in stores in Spain in which the owner greets you by saying "'¿Que quieres?"
