I started learning Japanese to understand vtubers which led to me wanting to practice what I learn by translating clips which led to me learning editing to make said videos. I never cared to make videos before but now I really like it and it's hard to juggle learning jp itself, watching vtubers and editing.

I think I'd like to save up a few years from working a "real job" before quitting, and then live while keeping my expenses low by not buying useless things, growing some of my own food, etc. Working 8 hours days at a computer is just not very fulfilling, I would also rather shovel snow or something lol

Hey Livakivi! I just wanna say I've been binge watching your vids over the last few days. I've been really interested in learning Japanese and have been watching lots of videos on learning languages. I really love and am inspired by the way you approach learning as a whole. For learning languages and Japanese in particular I enjoy listening to you talk about your progress and method because when you explain stuff the process seems a lot simpler and closer to achievable. Thank you for making videos. We love them.

You know how to program, edit, you speak English, Japanese and your native language, you go to the gym, you read, and other things I can't remember. I on the other hand don't know how to do anything (I'm writing this using a translator), I've been studying English for 6 months and although I more or less understand videos of people talking and more or less understand the writing, I can't even write, let alone speak. I've put in 6/8 hours a day and I'm bad at it. Ahh I just wanted to write this as an outlet, I would really like to turn back the clock and start over, stop wasting my time.

Hard to say, but generally, I recommend having something you want to build, no matter how menial, can even be a calculator. Then choose some technology or language for making that project, and start learning it, either through youtube videos, blogposts, written tutorials, online courses, etc.

I like drawing for myself but i have no passion in drawing what others request, i even hate it similar to you, so what i draw will look really ugly I recently even found out i dont even really like drawing itself, i only like the picture i get out of it, because it gives my dreams some reality.

Going to college for Computer Science is not mandatory, but it opens up a lot of doors. Most people I know that did not go to college (and work in the field) only know how to do web development, which if you are not aware, is very easy. While some people are not good at programming even after going through college, they are definetly better than if they hand't. I have never met a good Comp. scientist who does not have a degree.

If you want to blow up your channel and actually get fans that support you is: 1. Get a video that blows up (algorithm friendly) 2. Its hard to tell since I haven't tried, but with a dictionary, probably yeah. Though, there are 2 versions of the Japanese book - the more modern one, and the original one. The original one is very difficult even for natives, as even the modern one is quite difficult.

@Livakivi
@Livakivi 2 жыл бұрын
I've seen Wanikani, but I haven't personally used it. It will most likely get you good results, but its rather slow because it teaches you radiclals/kanji before vocabulary (or something). I personally just learn vocabulary directly without learning kanji in isolation. I do think its an ok idea to take like 1 to 2 cards per day from RRTK or something to get the minimum effective dose though.

I guess I'm reaching kind of a burnout state, mixed with the fact that I join a bit your point of view on working for others... Unfortunately, I don't find time to do anything outside of my full time job, and I'm heavily motivationless on the weekends, so that doesn't help at all. Maybe I have depression, who knows, too anxious, unmotiated, forgetful, and in deny to go see a doctor, even if it's getting worse in a way...
@Livakivi
@Livakivi 2 жыл бұрын
Well, you do sound like you exert symptoms of depression/anxiety. I think it would be best if you did seek help, as its going to improve your life quality in the end. If you refuse to get help from others, you can try getting started alone, at least. It all depends on your specific situation, but often lacking motivation and discipline comes from not seeing purpose/meaning in what you're doing. If you feel like that applies, it might be worth it to start getting into philosophy or working towards finding some meaning. If you have a clear path you want to follow, but are just missing the motivation or discipline, its just a matter of starting VERY small (I'm talking micro improvements month), and maintaining that until you're ready to add more. Its easy to say, hard to do, I know, but at least that's what I know to say right now.
@Syvies
@Syvies 2 жыл бұрын
@Livakivi Well, I could say that there is things I want to learn, but lacking the motivation and having an anxiety block due to the amount to learn, for exemple drawing. And it really feels like I'm not suited to work in an office in IT for a company, but I have no other choice, so yeah... I should have been speaking help since a year or two, but still haven't really made progress towards that.
