wonderful. i was born 24 years after live aid. sucks to have not been there for it, but maybe i was in a past life. at least there are people who come and talk about their 80s experiences! right now i’m on the hunt for a suzuki omnichord. it’s a trainwreck trying to find one for cheap, but thrift stores might assist me! fingers are crossed always. thank you for sharing this !

Oh Paul you brought back some amazing memories for me. I remember getting up at 4am to start watching everything in London and then in the USA. I live in Canada. My cousin's and I were in awe of all the musicians. So many artists we loved. Still a treasured memory.

Hey paul, the weird part of live aide was ,when they sang we are the world, Michael Jackson wasnt there to help sing the song.I was devestated paul, because when you look back, i can remember Michael Jackson was the biggest Pop Star in the 🌎 world! It sure was a pain in the ass going thru diffrent channels.I also taped live aide on a kodak vhs tape. just like you bud.Those kodak vhs tapes were the best! Awww memories.The 80s time period was the best.☺

I love the Live Aid concert! I was born too late to watch the original broadcast, but my dad bought the DVD set you mentioned when it came out and introduced me to all the great performances. Queen and U2 were definitely the best, a long with Sting, Dire Straits, The Cars, Madonna, and Status Qou. I think the Wembley concert was far, far superior to the one in Philly. For one the footage is much clearer and in better quality. The camera angles are better as well. In Philadelphia the camera crews were very limited in what the could do to capture the performance, but at Wembley there was pretty much free to roam the stage and get the best angles possible. In Queen's set you can even see Freddie Mercury grab the cameraman and start singing into the lense. The crowd starts roaring when he does it because theyre all watching the video moniter. I could go on and on about Live Aid, but this was a great video! Although some people thought that live Aid was kind of a scam, like Frank Zappa for example. Even if it was a scam, theres no denying that it was a magical day for rock n roll!

I was lucky as we had MTV and they played it all day switching between London and Philly. I had to work that mid and into the evening so I listened to it on the radio and watched video later. My favorite part was the Hall and Oates set along with them acting as the house band for the Temps, Tina and Mick....

I missed most of Live Aid since I was working all day at my first job, Mcdonalds. But hey, if McDonalds was good enough for Daniel Johnston it's good enough for me. I caught the Madonna set in the break room that afternoon with the oddity of the Thompson Twins joining her onstage. I think I caught a little of George Thorogood too and Queen. Later that evening I raced home just in time to see Mick and Tina followed by Dylan and Ron Wood. Dylan famously made the remark about helping farmers and thus, Farm Aid, was on its way to being born. One of these days I need to break down and buy the DVD set. Thanks for sharing Paul. That day is still exciting to me after all of these years even if much of my memory of it is intertwined with cooking burgers.

troy rogalinski I read online that they turned the sound up right before Queen went on so that they would be louder than everyone else. Supposedly that made them sound better. I think they were probably the best band there that day, period!

***** You could get up to 6 hours on a normal VHS tape, depending on what speed you used. There were also 8 hour tapes, they cost a little bit more. And 10 hour tapes, but they are pretty rare. They also were not good for the motors in VCRs.

A friend of mine told me recently that Dave Grohl came up with a solution to ending world hunger during a concert. Three steps: Gather food, ship food, distribute food. Kinda a no-brainer if you ask me. Then again, if one looks at the big picture to this experience, it really is not difficult to grasp and take action.

Funny, but I remember so much from 1985 (including alot of MTV watching) EXCEPT for Live Aid. I guess I just missed it or didn't care. I do remember "We Are the World" though. Still super-cool you recorded it. But I'm guessing one tape wasn't enough to record everything?
@weirdpaulp
@weirdpaulp 9 жыл бұрын
Vebinz The entire concert lasted for 16 hours. But, you have to add in the fact that it was taking place on two continents, so to tape it you would need much more tape than that. Add in all the news reports, etc and you are looking at maybe 30 hours of footage. I only taped about 5 hours total. But that was all the tape I had!

I was born in 1966. I think I was a senior in high school when this came out. I managed and was Partners in the video store. I was doing cocaine and taking a taxi to school. Couldn't spend the money fast enough. The store is called video Olympics. I sold bronze silver and gold memberships. It cost $35 for bronze 100 for a silver membership and $200 for a gold membership. If you remember you didn't have to leave a deposit and you get rent up to five movies. Non-members had to leave a $50 deposit per movie. I sold 4000 bronze memberships at $35 each.. back to Live Aid. I stayed up and watched that thing as it was broadcasted. I watched Phil Collins come over on a Jet Plane and play both continents. That's what I was turned on to Boomtown Rats to this day. I taped it on beta. Then some prick there's some prick taped over it for the Super Bowl that year. Don't worry that guy's dead now

Hey Paul great vid,I have a quick question to ask the analog master,I have a whole stack of old vhs tapes I recorded off tv,what would you recommend being the best way to copy tape to tape,because I don't wanna wear out the original copy but still want a vhs copy?if you could help that would be great!!!!
@weirdpaulp
@weirdpaulp 6 жыл бұрын
Well, anytime you play an old tape you have to worry about it wearing out. But the less it has been played in the past, the less you need to worry. I would suggest making the new copy in SP mode even if the old one isn't and you have to use multiple tapes.
