Well according to something shadow said during the fight, I think sonic may be the ultimate life form. Although they haven’t really followed up on this, I do think if there was some more context it would be that shadow was made to be the ultimate life form, but clearly sonic was already. Shadow says something like “I think I know what the ultimate life form is, and it might be you sonic!”

Super Sonic is the ultimate lifeform. The reason why Biolizard is a lizard and Shadow a hedgehog is because of the predictions from angel island. In Sonic Adventure, there is a mural that shows what perfect chaos looks like, a huge water lizard. In Sonic 3, there is a very old mural in the hidden palace zone that shows a blue thing with spikes surrounded by a yellow glow fighting against something that looks like eggman over a chaos emerald. Gerald Robotnik saw the murals (the sonic 3 one looks a bit like him) and tried to make his own version of the perfect chaos (which failed horribly), and a version of the hedgehog which succeeded. So when you fight Biolizard as Shadow in the core of Ark, it’s basically the same as Super Sonic vs Perfect Chaos. And those murals were made ages before sonic was even born
