Live and Learn Podcast Episode 10 - Sock Talk
NOTE - I tried to add another video onto this episode, but the tech flummoxed me. I wanted to say that the vintage yarn that I showed toward the end, that had moth damage - those vintage yarns are stored in their own little tote and isolated from the rest of the stash. The moth damage was present when I purchased those skeins at the thrift store, but I just couldn't resist the vintage labels, and do hope to use what I can of the skeins someday, and maybe frame the labels. Rest assured anything I share in giveaways is in very good condition! And now...
A brief look at socks, because, let’s face it, socks would be their own series!

As always, I something new with every show. I'm definitely going to start turning my socks inside out if I put them in the machine. I love the "rabbit holes" you go down due to your curiosity. Keep up the great work.

Thank you for another informative & enjoyable episode! I really do enjoy knitting socks. I’m a top down sock knitter and mostly plain vanilla ones. I’m interested in trying the 4 x 2 rib socks, those will be next on my needles! I really appreciate being the winner of last episodes drawing! Thank You!

That Spinnerin pattern book took me back- my mom had it to knit my dad argyle socks and us kids mittens. I inherited the mitten book and still have it. Very interesting and fun sock podcast. Love all your socks.

It's a pleasure to find you. I have been knitting socks for many years, also. I love hearing about yours. I learned making 'boot socks' and I used worsted weight-Condon's or Briggs and Little were my favorite yarns. Now I use fingering, and rarely knit worsted weight socks. But socks are a pleasure to knit, they are both a challenge and make you feel like an accomplished knitter. Although, as I watch I am knitting a hat. 🙃

Thanks for a most enjoyable episode Annie. I watch from New Zealand so it's summer here. I knit socks all year round. I'm addicted to knitting them. I remember wearing suspender belts to keep stockings up in the 50s and 60s before panty hose came in. I'm going to try your 4x2 ribbing next time. I don't enter your giveaways because it would cost you a small fortune to post if I was drawn from your glass jar!! Thank you, and yes, a cozy fire and knitting is total bliss in winter!

I'm catching up today with your podcast - oh I enjoyed this one! Sock knitting is deeply personal and thank-you for empahsizing that we can all have our own way of doing it and that's just fine. I don't block my socks either - lay them flat and they've always been fine. I will try the inside-out washing though - surprising how well that works! Thanks for sharing all these awesome tips :) And a 6x4! I usually do a 2x2 but I think I'll try a 6x4 next time.

Police officers and military men still wear sock and shirt garters when they wear a dress uniform. Well, my husband's generation did. I'm not sure about now. Military guys also wear blousing rubbers to hold their pants cuff in place over their boots. I enjoyed your sock talk! There is always something new to be learned.

I like making socks but I now have to wear compression socks 😩

My mom used to wear "elastic stockings" as she called them, and I used to have to help pull them off. I only now realize how painful that must have been for her. She would be loving all the choices of compression socks that are available today.
