I’m always on the lookout for good KZbin channels and this one is great and informative. I’m re-reading the Flemings as well (pre-2023 versions of course) and I plan to dive through your film commentaries.

I had all of those 2002/2003 Penguins and even the QOS anthology in the same style. Lost in a fire sadly and I miss them terribly. Those are the covers I came to love. I’ve got ebooks now (don’t hate me) and I recovered them all in Calibre to those Penguin versions.

Mr. Analyst. I discovered your audio commentaries to Batman and Bond about a month ago and they've kept me very entertained! I was just looking for a fun podcast to hear while I did my household duties and this was the perfect soundtrack to my day! I look forward to hearing you talk for another 10 years like the favorite relative who reads you a story

One of my favorite moments in the book was right before the "keel hauling" sequence, where Mr. Big prays to the spirit of "Bloody" Morgan for a fair wind. I also agree that the radio version of Mr. Big was VERY underwhelming.

@@nitrateglow2087 thank you!! These are some of the hardest videos for me to make because I’ve reread and analyzed the books for years. It makes it nearly impossible to figure out a kind of structure or how to cram in everything I can think of.

I appreciate your enthusiasm so much. Your analysis is enlightening, and you are always so obviously well researched. But It's really your enthusiasm for these pop culture relics that keeps me coming back for every new video. Thank you!

Just finished a read through, it certainly drags in the middle but the Jamaica section was one of my favourite Fleming climaxes. Good adventure story for Bond, liked how beaten and torn he gets at the end.

I didn't know that there were different versions for the US market, but I'm not surprised because the early Beatles records have different versions

I'm six chapters in as of this morning, so I have saved this to my Watch Later, and it'll the first thing I spend 2 hours doing once I finish in the coming weeks, haha! Cannot wait!

@@Cinefessions thank you!! This one was longer because there are multiple additional aspects I had to cover plus the text differences, so I made sure to have plenty of chapters!

I have (in addition to my beloved if battered Signets) the complete series of ebooks featuring the B&W stylized Mercer covers. I've just the LALD edition onto my Kindle to double check the content and oddly enough, Amazon has not (yet) pulled the uncut British text version... I've probably just alerted the Bezos Brigade as we speak. Sorry, everybody...

What’s your opinion on the 2 to date novels by Kim Sherwood?
@DamnFoolIdealisticCrusader3 ай бұрын
@@MarkyV968 I think it’s a fun approach to do something outside of the normal Bond novel and is reminiscent of the Moneypenny Diaries to an extent. I’m building up to eventually doing videos on the continuation books in order so hopefully I’ll have videos made on those books in the not too distant future!!

Do you read the later ones by Gardner and others, or just the Flemings

@DamnFoolIdealisticCrusader I actually tried to read Moonraker in high school and couldn't get through it, then I picked up License Renewed by Gardner and after reading a few of his, I went back to the Flemings, and the rest, as they say is history BTW I couldn't get through Game Of Thrones the first time I tried reading it, it was after I started watching the show that I decided to retackle that one, my issue with that was the ages of the main characters

Great comparison between CR & LALD. Both are fantastic, but had clearly different "styles."

Good analysis of the book, but IMO you spent far too much time talking about the movie (I bailed out at that point). I thought this was supposed to be a literary analysis. Some comments about the racism: I think it's mostly confined to the way Fleming had Mr. Big's spies and henchmen speak, using "ebonics", and emphasizing how superstitious they were. But I don't think Fleming depicted them as inferior to whites. In fact, M states specifically that blacks have plenty of brains, ability, and guts, and the half Jamaican half French Mr Big is an extremely intelligent and worthy adversary. One of my favorite aspects of the depiction of Felix is how he is able to establish rapport with some of Mr. Big's henchmen by discussing their mutual love for jazz. I'd also like to point out that Fleming stereotyped pretty much everyone: Brits, the French, the Russians, the Japanese, the Chinese, etc. Edit. I didn't know about the original title of chapter five. Yes, that would be unacceptable.

In order for people to not get divided over the supposed "racism" in the novel, it has to be understood that one race does find certain characteristics of another race strange, so there is nothing in reality that is "dated" about that aspect. What will be dated is the modern "progressive" mindset where "fighting racism" is by constantly vilifying average white men as much as possible. I'm sure you would at least acknowledge Spencer that Ian Fleming had far more honesty in comparison? We can't just pretend that every race is exactly the same. 😉
