Sorry about the verbal slips! SX 78 should have been SX 68 (of course), Tektronix should have been Teletronics (duh) LA-2A, and I refer to Vic as Vic.....except for the time I slip up and say Nick. Sorry, Vic! --Matt Lutthans

Wish I could have watched this live. Unfortunately I was at work and can’t log on. But just watched. One of the best interviews you have done Steve. Loved how much detail Matthew went into all the gear and its quirks, especially the 1hz thing to bring the buried voices forward in the mix. Outstanding.

Interesting that the Leon Russell's tape technician was mentioned. Good friends of mine in the Boston area purchased a mobile recording studio from Leon back in the 80's when VH-1 music videos were on the rise and Leon bought a bus to accommodate video and sold this audio-only bus to my friends. The Eagle bus came with the MCI 24-track machine and mixing console which was likely maintained by his tech. This became known as New England Mobile Recording. What was most interesting was the additional lead-lining of the bus that added something like 1 to 2 tons to the weight of the bus to shield from electro-magnetic interference. I was privileged to assist with mixing/production as I was told I had "good ears".

Could those rtr be set up to record 7inch reels at 7.5ips for consumer machines?

In theory, yes, but in practice we only have one set of heads for quarter-track, and it is playback only.

Rhino puts out a very good product. But i can't stand the lies almost at the same level as the MOFI fiasco. Rhino puts out a limited run of a particular supposedly 5000 or 3000 record. Consumers buy it at tines because of the limited quantity. Them If the particular album sells our then Rhino produce more. I can't be the only one who feels betrayed and lied to. If that's the case, stop putting out limites run, period. I, for one, no longer will support such a company. Tx
