Hi Pete, keep up the good work. Regarding prices for jobs…..My thoughts are Shippers can’t expect rock-bottom prices for deliveries, without drivers co-loading. Something has to give, it’s pretty logical to me, you can’t make a living without the odd co-load. As long as you meet the delivery time requirements it should be excepted. I run a Sprinter curtain side with a tail lift. I have a £70 minimum charge and I’d want £1.50 per mile and £15 for additional drops. But I’m missing out on jobs when I’m quoting £1.30 a mile. The answer is load 2 MWB jobs at a combined £1.70 per mile.

I have 2 vans, lwb and luton. I have driver on luton. On lwb i charge anything between 1 to 1.5 sometimes more, especially in thursdays and fridays. On luton anything between 1.3 up to 2,5. Worth to mention is a fact i live in VERY GOOD AREA, cuz its coventry so alot of jobs there from bmngham, coventry,nuneanton, bedford and surroundings.

Yes way off on small van prices there, I would rather stay home than do those prices Pete! Fuel too expensive now, add all the other overheads, there is no incentive. You have to be charging more…

The Leicester to Cambridge Job (09:20) with pick up at 13:00 and drop off at 17:00 - if you took that job, would you try and squeeze in a small, local, job in between pick up and drop off? If you did, would you need to notify either job that you were co loading?

For me .... Not a bloody chance , no way no chance . 3 reasons ........ 1st , you are contracted to do a job , that job , only that job , they are paying for that large space behind the driver regardless of if they fill it or not , its theres to be used how they see fit . You are the enabler as the owner driver . It is there space for the duration of the trip . 2nd , It takes a minor mistake , an act of god or traffic to ruin not just that job but also the co-loaded job you took on . Not only this but when dropping the extra job you sir have lots of explaining to a company on how you sold the space behind the driver and filled it with someone elses stuff at the same time ............... reputations are easier to lose than win and simply put you will not last long . 3rd , you are seen on the CX at all times with work booked in and out on a timed basis . It is 1 job at a time . If the times cross over its flagged and you can and/or will get a call to suspend your account until they look into it . Today i was in a luton . I collect a parcel , its a small bearing in a box . I couldnt strap it in using a seatbelt in the front as it was too small so i put my coat over it , it cant go in the back .......... Now the back is just full of air and im off to manchester . I could easily pick up another job at the same time and moms the word , no-one needs to know and im on double bubble ...... but theres no friggin way thats ever going to happen as its a jar you can never put the lid back on . My reputation is not worth the extra 40 quid . The grand i pick up a week is not worth risking for the sake of 40 quid . It is courier suicide to even consider it . There is a rare time you get to co-load and thats with the express permission of the second job AFTER collecting a backload . That is beyond a remote chance , most backloads listed are just poorly paid work consideering 999/1000 shippers will tell you to piss off if you explain you already have half a van full of anyones elses stuff and will burn you and your reputation for the trouble of seeking to fill the van . So word to the wise and i cant stress this enough ... dont ... Dont even consider it .

@@godzillas6301 So presumably if you take the job, you charge something like 3 hours waiting time on top in the initial quote?
@godzillas6301
@godzillas6301 3 жыл бұрын
@@NoName-qz1mr Nope . I either dont take the job or suck it up that im sat on my bum for a few hours ........ which then takes me off to do a bit of shopping . A walk around the town centre . A polish of all my glass etc etc .... If you did seek to tag on 60 quids worth of down time you become uncompetative on price and wont get the job . To be frank if its a crappy area you put up with it as 2 hours of refreshing the phone does anyones head in . In a busy place you just wouldnt bother and let someone else take it on . Monday , i , whilst waiting brought 3 dog beds ...... today i did all the glass work inside and out ......... the back has been swept and ive attached the sticker residue a few times in the last few weeks 🙂 Sat waiting isnt so bad in many ways . If you are productive with the time its not so bad and its part of being a courier . Its better to be sat on ones arse doing a decent job than chasing your tail taking on 2 crappy jobs with shed loads of dead miles which could have been the result of not taking on the wait and see . Also if you turn up early you never know you may get in and loaded . A pump truck , tail lift and a smile gets you places .

Always loved your videos and they were vital for me staying up on the CX however I'm not sure if it's your pricing or you just go of the guides but the way you put it out to viewers I completely disagree with no job is a set per mile rate at all no matter what the ones you mention in this video and previous are crazy

I have to agree with this comment. I absolutely love Pete's videos and they can be very helpful for everyone. There is few issues with this one however. If you got basic CX app you won't be able to choose to see only Luton jobs or whatever. You can do it online but not like in the video on app. Then the prices... I remember watching you from beginning and you were saying small van on average £0.65 and years later it is still £0.65 in your opinion? Did you noticed how much diesel cost now compare to few years back? As far as I know swb-mwb ppl getting jobs for 0.90- £1 normally and in some cases probably even more. Prices of petrol go up and this is the first industry to be affected. In my opinion price of diesel go up so is my services not earning more as everything else going up but if you keep prices low you just shooting yourself in the foot.Cant imagine shippers charging customers the same money like few years ago as there costs increased as well. I know a lot of ppl watching this video and those are only my thoughts just wondering what others think ... Regards Michael

@@originalaquar1854 I do the same thing unless I'm desperate in Scotland for example where it's hard to get a anything. Saying that on few occasions I had £1/mile or even more from Aberdeen and Glasgow. Not the lightest goods I admit but it was worth it.

Don't do it. Seriously you earn less than minimum wage. You can make £800 in 48hrs but that is once in a blue moon. The odd job pays great but honestly averaging out you make minimum wage.
