I managed to miss the direct while it was live, but I can't express how happy I am about this. There's so much new content to look forward to. I'm so happy that they managed to not only include the major features that we've been asking for since the beginning, but a ton of surprise bonus content that just makes the experience that much bigger and better. I'll definitely be getting the DLC. It's essentially a whole extra game for an amazing price, and it looks absolutely spectacular. If this is the last major content update for Animal Crossing, it's well worth all of the truly phenomenal things we're getting that are going to bring new life to the game.

Okay, there's a small rant incoming, I've come back up to top to tell you or anyone else now: If you are specifically talking about people who directly insulted the dev team, you are fair to hold animosity towards those people, though I will note from what I can see they were in incredibly small numbers to the point of being largely irrelevant (e.g. there's good odds the devs didn't even see those tweets). If, on the other hand, you or anyone else nodding along to your comment are including any people merely holding harsh criticisms of the game, the following rant might be relevant: The game was in development for years before the pandemic, criticism of the game releasing with tons of series staples that were even in the previous game *that was a handheld release* not present or poor design decisions does not automatically equal beratement of the devs, and being critical doesn't automatically reduce me or others from being a fan of the game. I'm sure the devs worked very hard and should be commended for that... that doesn't mean the designers thought everything out super well or put priority in all the best places. (e.g. bulk crafting will still not exist after this final update even though that's absolutely the sort of thing that comes up in playtesting) You know who I had a far bigger issue with on twitter, personally at least, than people being too mean or rude in their criticism of the game? People who would jump down the throats of anyone who had a problem with the game. People who would use COVID as an excuse for missing content despite it being mostly developed before COVID *and* receiving a delay to help get everything finished, all the while ignoring that many of us barely scraped together the money to buy the game *because of COVID* . What a wonderful double standard. The super best part? It didn't matter how much of the game you played, you got gatekeeped from being a "true fan" either way if you had a problem with anything. Played for anything from 0-20 hours? Well you just didn't give the game a fair shot. Played anything upwards of 20 hours? Well you got your money's worth compared to any other big game so what are you complaining about. Apparently, me being unhappy that ordinances were gone, some of my favorite characters were gone, golden tools now break and do nothing special besides last a longer with a high crafting cost, gyroids being gone, no cafe, the villagers being less conversational and not having as many little events with them, etc, meant I got to be dismissed out of hand as not a real fan despite playing and loving the series since I was a child playing on the gamecube. (And that list is by no means exhaustive, especially since on release there were tons of other things that have since been drip fed over time in content updates. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate free content updates, but they are slightly undermined by the fact that the biggest things they added, generally, where features from previous games that didn't make it into this one on release.) I have two friends who are absolute *cinnamon rolls* , just super nice people. The saddest thing for me? For one friend, this was their first animal crossing game, and all the little annoyances in design and the lack of content for a "play everyday" game made them put it down pretty early... and they never plan on coming back. And most of the things they didn't like about it... were not problems any previous game had. They have really bad anxiety, and this game could have helped them a lot. I had a friend with similar problems who was really helped by New Leaf. Now I have to try and bring them back into the series, and I can't because even after the last update many of their issues are still there. For my other friend? They also left, and are worried based on a lot of the design patterns that Nintendo is going to make the next Animal Crossing game a straight up live-service game, and I can't tell them with 100% confidence that they're wrong. I tried to win them back over with this direct, but they aren't coming back in no small part because when they talked about what they didn't like in this game, a bunch of people friggin dogpiled them online. In their minds, the animal crossing fandom is just too toxic to be around.

@@oldred890 You seriously can’t type an entire leaflet worth of a rant, durdleduc was saying they were really happy of how the people who were working on ACNH managed to finish what they needed to do while avoiding the obstacles. Yes, I know disrespecting the community isn’t the best way to state your point but a part of fans at that point before the direct was announced were giving up on the game, even before ACNH was announced people were upset because usually from what I know, Animal Crossing titles would be released as one of the first games to be released on each respective console that Nintendo released. Also, if the pandemic never hit the world, the 2.0 update would’ve been released much earlier, even though NH’s 2.0 is kind of like NL’s Welcome amiibo. With durdleduck’s comment I was agreeing with the entire comment not berating of fans part.

Most people are focusing on the _free_ part in "last major free update", not realizing that you could emphasize "major" or "free". If it's "last _major_ free update", then that means there will still be free updates, but just minor ones like quality of life. But "last major _free_ update" means that there would be other major updates, but just ones you need to pay for. Either way, it's not the end of updates in AC, they'll be small and free, or big and paid for. I think 90% of the people I've seen aren't realizing that because they're seeing the word "free" and running with it.

WAIT A MINUTE this felt like you know a kind of parody video with everything we could hope for but obviously it won't happen. I am so happy about this update 😭 like Nintendo really rewarded people for their patience. If they gave us all of this from the beginning, most time-travellers would have consumed the hell out of it within the first few months of the game just like they did with the original features from release and burned out anyway. I live in Hawaii, and I just woke up. I saw that some streamers on Twitch went live a couple of hours ago to watch the Direct live. It'll take some time for my brain to absorb the information in this Nintendo Direct video. EDIT: OMG, waiting for this update was so worth it. I knew I could put my trust in you Nintendo.
