Glad you are feeling better. Fun fact- I have a tub with pearl danio outside & man those suckers get surprisingly chonky when they have enough room to grow & plenty of live food to hunt!-Some of mine would be pushing near on 10cm now at around 4years old- I know they dwarf their big ol mature female guppy tub mates that are 5cm to 6cm in size (almost crapped myself when I netted out a fish that was near on double the size I was expecting of anything in there while grabbing some guppies for a friend to add to their tub/pond lol). I describe Pearl danio activity level as hyperactive- glowlight danios are active- Pearls are triple their activity level IME, it's like they never stop rushing to get somewhere 😆

Hi Cam. I didn't used to have a quarantine protocol, but after someone brought an angel fish home with a fungus, I am working one up. I isolate the fish without any treatments for a coupla days and visually inspect them, but I am considering a methylene blue treatment, because, why not. I use a drip acclimator to bring them up to the chemistry of their home tank, put them in a plastic "inspection" tank in the home tank to acclimate them to temperature, and then plop and drop them in. So far, I have lost only two fish doing it this way, and I suspect these are wild-caught fish from Venezuela. (Probably why it took months to get them in.) Take care.

That makes a lot of sense. I am very hesitant to tell people not to qt fish because as i said, everything pretty much gets default qt anyway. But it sounds like you have a good system. Im generrally not a fan of preventitive medication while stuff is in QT but methylene blue or salt etc is an exception. Sounds like your fish are very well looked after though!

I have started quarantine after reading horror story’s like this 😬. Finished qt on a new calico oranda a few weeks ago and she is doing great!

Great video, glad ur feeling better mate. One question, when shipping fish from wholesale or when you send them are the bags filled with pure oxygen or just normal air? How long would they survive bagged with air vs oxygen etc?

Thanks mate! Now obv I am not 100% sure, but I believe it depends on the distributor. Some would use pure oxy and some definitely don't. I cant guarantee but I believe these guys use it. I don't have a sales rep unfortunately so I cant ask, although I may be able to find out from their main office. We don't use pure oxy when shipping and most fish will be fine a good few days at least. Generally water quality becomes an issue before oxygen, although I am not an expert to be honest.
