Nice! I’m planning a somewhat similar setup, but with two Push 3 standalone, less tracks, but more fx. Same mixer but 1.4. Zendelay, H90, LVX and Analog heat+fx. The idea is to mix my tracks between the two temp matching by hand. This way I can create endless transitions and combinations on the fly. It’s a bit more expensive having two Push 3’s, but the fun should be more than double.

Best push 3 performance I’ve seen so far. Congrats! You are a Octatrack lover, does this means that your performance sequencer brain has change from now?
@JayHosking Жыл бұрын
Hey, thanks so much. I don't think this will change my relationship with the Octatrack. The Push 3 is amazing, but I see its main value in compiling a number of songs, some of which will still be created on the Octatrack. But who knows? Maybe I'll change my mind! Thanks again.
@everpuremusic Жыл бұрын
Very nice! But I must admit that I am a bit surprised that you haven't included the Octatrack as part of your "live setup". I get that this video is mostly about showcasing Push 3 and the Model 1 mixer. But the Octatrack has been such a central part of so many of your performances that I would have expected it to be irreplaceable for you in a live performance. In any case, keep it coming - I am always inspired by your jams!
@JayHosking Жыл бұрын
I have definitely tried to incorporate the Octatrack into every live set I've built, including this one. But in this case, the OT's four inputs would limit my mixing; I'd want to have drums on the OT, and then I'm switching banks patterns on the OT, which is one more mental thing to juggle. As such, I skipped it for this setup, and think (in this current incarnation) I'll continue to skip for the moment. But I could see a simpler setup with just Push and OT in the future. I'm also building an OT set at the moment. AND bear in mind that a bunch of these tracks were built in OT to begin with! More OT soon!

Best I heard for a while. Does it help to reduce choices? How much of the sound character (soft saturation) comes from using the external boxes? Mix does not sound this "boxy" then, maybe.
@JayHosking Жыл бұрын
I wouldn't necessarily trust my ears (it's just fun and lovely gear), but something tells me the Model 1 does some nice subtle work to the overall sound, especially bass. The effect sends really just allow me to perform and have fun, while also creating transitions and a seamless set. And thanks so much!

Very nice set Jay, really enjoyed it! Glad you found a setup that suits your need for live playing 😃👍 I was wondering if you considered, for a while, integrating 1 or 2 "small" instruments in this setup like the Minitaur, Bass Station II, Minifreak nay Take 5...? (in order to be able to tweak some knobs live 😉 even if I'm aware that it would somehow complicate the performance 😅)
@JayHosking Жыл бұрын
I definitely want to do this. The main reason I didn't was for simplicity of setup when I'm travelling. If space and setup time was no matter, I'd definitely have the Minitaur and maybe Nymphes on the table, and the Sub37 or similar to the side to play. But yeah, more gear means more wiring and more possibility of something going wrong, so I'm trying to simplify as much as possible. And thanks!
@2MinuteWarning Жыл бұрын
@@JayHosking I totally get you here 😉(and thanks for the quick reply! 👍)
@earth_a_n_g_e_l Жыл бұрын
I'm curious if you could have pulled this set off without the mixer, using an External Audio Effect device on a send channel for the FX, and EQ devices for the EQ. Definitely preferable to have hardware but it seems feasible that the 18i20 ADAT + Push could serve as a performance mixer solution for those of us that don't have a Model 1-caliber mixer on hand.
@JayHosking Жыл бұрын
I think it could certainly be pulled off using the Push 3, sending stereo outs to one send effect (e.g. the Zen Delay), back in through the inputs, and then sending master through the headphone output. You could pair it with something like a Faderfox to have faders on the side, and use macros on the Push to do filtering. That way you wouldn't need mixer or audio interface. For sure!

Very funny... this is the track I've been remixing! Had to look up whether "Nychthemeron" is a made up word or what 🤣 Very cool track.

How would one get fx from Ableton master if the tracks get split out? If I want to use abelton fx on the master I mesn
@JayHoskingАй бұрын
You're not able to have master level effects and also have individual outs. However, you can have effects across multiple tracks mapped to the same fader via Multimap, the m4l device, so you could (for example) have a filter on each device being controlled all at once.
@DeepDishCoffeeАй бұрын
@ ahh I see I wonder if once everything is hooked up. In stead of going from the master out of model one going to the speakers it goes back into the line in in push then back out of push to the speaker instead and then apply master from Ableton but still have control of each track in the model one.
@soularslaps14 күн бұрын

@JayHosking Жыл бұрын
I'm sending ADAT out to the audio interface. Max number of channels on ADAT is 8, or 4 stereo outs from the audio interface to the Model 1 mixer. The last stereo input to the mixer comes directly from the Push 3's audio output. Hope that helps. And thanks!
