Park Avenue Synagogue is a very upper class conservative congregation. I am glad to see the rabbi knows Tehilim (psalms) and can quote Hebrew. You see, I have a very minimal expectation of Hebrew knowledge on the part of American conservative rabbis. And congregations. How happy everyone was to have an Israeli song translated! My Jewish education started in first grade and is lifelong. As for song - the classic Israeli songs have taught me much Hebrew vocabulary. I look up every word. I sing many famous songs of the past. They make the heart happy, as my rabbi said. Singing makes you happy.

Not knowing the practices of the people of the synagogue, of the synagogue as a community, how can you make judgement? I think judgement is above your pay grade.

For our light affliction, which is but a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding weight of glory; while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things that are not seen are eternal. 2 Corinthians 4: 17, 18

With all due respect - it's nice to have everyone sing shehecheyanu - but why mention G-Ds name in vaine? Isn't he a rabbi? Every 1st grader in any Torah class knows we don't mention Hashems in Vaine.

Although the singing is beautiful, Park Ave. Synagogue should know better than to allow someone to recite a blessing using G-d's name. That's called a bracha levatalah.

@@barbrazimerman9242 what is not nice at all, are those childish-nosy voices imposed everywhere simply because of not caring a second about the beauty of what voices can become by hight cantors. Not willing to distinguish the different levels of beauty is outrageous.
