Glen's story about being chased by the Polish kids reminded me of my doctor's who was Jewish from New York. He hated the Irish because when he was a kid he had to walk past the mainly Irish parochial school and there were often fights between them and his friends. A lot of ethnic enmity back in those days. On a side note, when I was in Chicago, I got along great with the Irish so his story surprised me.

It’s weird to be honest as an Englishman I was taught to hate the Irish and tbh I do hate some of them haha mostly the staunch Republicans but love others who don’t fall into the hatred narrative between us but until this day I get hate from the Irish at work, it’s weird but sectarian violence isn’t as prevalent but it’s close to happening and people don’t realise it and I’m talking about in America but when I’m at home in England or when I go to Dublin, the hate is beyond prevalent and I don’t even have the accent as I moved to the States when I was 9

I listen to the Glenn Show and not always sure what Glenn will say next because his thoughts never seem canned. He has a passion for life, too, which I admire. Anyhow, this was a very personal interview, and makes me want to read his memoir. Thanks.

Glen reminds me of a friend of mine named Charlie, who's of similar age, similar genius, even similar physique, that we all called the professor. He is also a black conservative. Glen's views are clearly well-reasoned and thoughtful, and I think it's shameful that so many minority folks think a black man is betraying his race if he's conservative. People say that about Clarence Thomas also. But if people listened to Clarence's views on race, and know his black-nationalist history, they know that he isn't someone who wants to be white, or some of the other racist things people say about him. He argues that one of the most vile forms of racism is a white man helping a black man, because he believes the black man can't help himself. I commend Glen for coming to his views reasonably, and not feeling like he has to be part of some team because others say he should. There are valid reasons to be a Democrat, valid reasons to be a Republican, valid reasons to be a libertarian, or valid reasons to be independent. People should respect the views of others, so long as they aren't motivated by hate, or other immoral reasons.

Glenn is different than Clarence though, he didn’t sell out for his decisions like Clarence did, I know Glenn would defend him as he is friends with Clarence but a friend defending someone isn’t anything to point to, cause I would defend my shite friends as well cause I’m loyal but Clarence is clearly corrupted

Thank God dr loury is back on this podcast. It bothers me he has been so critical of israel, I hope he's having a change of heart. Pressing play now and hoping for the best. He and Robert Wright are a couple of my heroes who really need to screw their heads on straight and be more sympathetic to israel.

You should count yourself lucky that there are intelligent people who you respect and follow who publicly have different positions from you on something important to you. That is a great opportunity to rethink things and reflect on how and why you come to your conclusions. I am speaking generally here, I have no position on that conflict myself.

@@spencerantoniomarlen-starr3069 I don't consider anybody lucky because of people blaming Israel for getting attacked over and over again. But I take your point, you're making a different point and it's a good one. And now that I watched this episode and they didn't focus on israel, I should clarify that Dr L is not a typical Israel critic. Most of them are some combination of clueless or evil. Disclaimer: I'm not Jewish and I have no connection to israel. I don't want anyone to see my comment and think Jews are being all tribal or something. I'm Irish from massachusetts.

Couldn’t disagree more. Their ability to look at situations objectively and rationally is what makes them such treasures. Sounds like you might need to find some sympathy for the Palestinians. You know the ones whom even when putting aside the disparity in civilian deaths over the decades, are the ones who were kicked off their land and are repeatedly denied the creation of their own country.

@@erickohner2205 dear lord, please do some reading.. start with reading people who disagree with your view on the conflict. I know it’s hard to do when you’ve only been exposed to one sides perspective… but it’s hard to take you seriously when that is your response. There are honest and legitiment arguments on the Israeli side as well, (I know because I read perspectives i disagree with) if I was you I’d probably read up on those as well.

"Soon a Yankee was let down in the well, and all that money, silver, gold, jewelry, watches, rings, brooches, knives and forks, butter-dishes, waiters, goblets, and cups was took and carried 'way by an army that seemed more concerned 'bout stealin', than they was 'bout the Holy War for the liberation of the poor African slave people. They took all the horses, sheep, cows, chickens, and geese; took the seine and the fishes they caught, corn in crib, meat in smoke-house, and everything. Marse General Sherman said war was hell. It sho' was. Maybe it was hell for some of them Yankees when they come to die and give account of the deeds they done in Sumter and Richland Counties." 87 year-old Henry D. Jenkins of Fairfield County, South Carolina, circa 1936 - Slave Narratives, South Carolina, volume 14, part 3, pages 3, 23, and 26 - What Glenn said about history and stick figures.

One of Carl Jung's most important themes is the integration of the shadow, or dark, self. Prof Loury is being too apologetic in having made admissions and confessions about himself. We all have a dark side, even as many or most of us will never admit it to others--maybe not even ourselves, in some cases.
