This is me in the video, this was great lesson for me having struggled with this for years and having had classic position based lessons that got me no-where. This was about 4-5 weeks ago and I'm seeing major improvements on the course, I was struggling with my 14 h'cap but now playing to it easily. This video will help me now as a recap of the lesson. We also worked on driver which has seen the biggest improvement in terms of fairways hit and distance (even in the cold weather). Iron play has improved too but harder to gauge whilst playing winter temp greens.

Thanks Simon, when we switched to driver it was a much harder change but ironically that seems to have been the easier change to take to the course. The irons are coming but slower but I guess we take more shots with them and accuracy required is higher! And I can actually over-cook this and miss left which is new for me ;)

Steve Reed Really good lesson Steve. Thanks for allowing Mark to post this. And I can't help but feel your excitement right along with you as you massively changed your ball flight. Really, really cool to see the look on your face which is that you 'get' it. Keep up the practice and you'll be a single digit hdcp before you know it.

Hello Mark, follower from Canada here.. Took this lesson to the range yesterday and greatly increased my ball striking, feels very awkward to hinge my wrist like that but the pure strikes I got is worth it.. Driver distance increased and my misses in terms of dispersion were cut in half.. Thanks for the Live Lessons

Thanks for making this little teaching moment available to the public, Mark. I found it extremely useful. Took this idea to the range and managed to put balls on target line pretty consistently by the end of the bucket. However, I never did manage to get any kind of draw or hook shape out of it, no matter how much I felt like I was exaggerating the "rev". Misses tended to be low flying, and extreme left but straight. I'm not sure if this is caused by the limited rotation I have in my left wrist (broke/fractured it some time back and never went to the doctor) or some other fault in my swing. Whatever the case, I'm going to try not to worry about it too much seeing as how once I had the feel down every ball I hit would have been playable on the course. Thanks so much once again.
@sdreed25
@sdreed25 9 жыл бұрын
Might be that you don't swing as left as I did to get the hooky ones but also as you said perhaps your wrist. I actually find I get more revs when I rev the right wrist hard and I make sure it stays in or more added on the way down

Nice work, Mark. I teach also and fix pull/slicers much the same way. It's great to have launch monitors that track the club delivery because then results are measured, and in this case, improvement is demonstrated.

o thought I'd come back and write an update/review after 9 months since this lesson. At the time of the lesson I had a 14 handicap but the previous 20-30 rounds had been more like 18 and was regularly a long way short and right off the tee. Straight after the lesson I was longer by 20-30yrds off the tee and would only miss right occasionally or pull left. With all the practice on full shots I put into this I was hitting more fairways and Greens in Regulation my scores came down to my 14 h'cap within a few weeks which was excellent. I was actually playing much better than last time I was at 14 but not quite getting the scores in qualifying competitions.

This last month my short game has sharpened with practice and the changes from here are very natural now. I've now shot +8 in a medal & stableford competition and been cut to 12.2. And unlike most precious good rounds I felt in control and that I should/could have gone low. 1 round included a -1 front 9 of 34! I thank Mark a great deal for not only the lesson but his continual support over social media. I can't recommend his teaching enough and will be heading to see him again if I get stuck again but he's given me the tools to understand my game to a certain level now.

+Steve Reed , been wondering, what does it cost to get a 1 hour lesson with mr. crossfield? I'm trying to calculate if I can afford it after I buy the plane ticket from the U.S. to where he's at. lol j/playin but i am curious about the price.

Mark doesn't advertise the price so I won't repeat here, I called up Clifton Hill and enquires. It was about what I was expecting for a coach of his abilities but the value I got out of it was better than I expected.

Quick question Mark, You have all your yardages figured out on your clubs, especially your irons. How often do you check to see if those numbers match up properly and how do you exactly figure out your yardage to write down? Do you, for example, hit 10 balls and then take the average?
@stevenmoss82
@stevenmoss82 9 жыл бұрын
This is exactly what I am working on in my lessons at the moment . I've seen big improvement on the range in ball flight and distance but the main thing I like I've a more consistent gap between my irons so I am looking forward to getting out hopefully hit some more greens . Great video thanks for sharing .

great video and lesson.. I swing a lot like steve and im also trying to learn to swing from the inside... when I watch someone like Sergio Garcia swing it blows my mind how he keeps his back to the target for so long on his downswing.. I cant even do this in super slow motion.. but then when I watch fred couples swing his chest seems to be facing the ball very early in the downswing like steves was in the beginning of this video as well as mine... I was wondering what are the benefits of keeping your back to the target on the downswing like Sergio as opposed to the way couples swings.. I know they both hit the ball a mile.. any comments will help? thanx

It's still the path but I'm finding the least natural, the reving I've got locked down and the hitting the mat less hard. I tried the get the path right drill if Mark's last night when you have the face 20° closed but grip normally and can't miss left. First few went left but then I got it and the body feeling is very different, I'm now starting to bleed this into my normal swing. Maybe try that? Oh and I have no answer to the Fred vs Sergio question, except perhaps Fred manages to keep the shaft path flatter than the hand path still moving that way.

I used to have a really bad hook with my driver, I started lagging the club head and deliberately stopping myself from turning over to early to cure the hook and went to a really bad slice. I know why it was happening, but for the life of me I don't know why my sub conscience was stopping me from doing it and I was aiming further and further left to counteract the slice with no effect. It's almost like I was trying to slice the ball as far right as I used to be able to hook left to try and find my centre. Really weird! Started turning the club over again now, not played much this week, but hoping to get back to straighter drives soon. I think sometimes you need to exaggerate these movements to get a better understanding of where you need to be with your swing.

Would love to see some video how these changes to the swing were used on the driver, like Steve I find it much harder to make changes like this on the driver, maybe because of the different stance. Great work through

Yes this technique didn't 100% help with driving, although it did get me a functional straight shot but low. My angle of attack was still down, so Mark had me throwing the angles away at the top away into the corner behind me. If I get that right I get a high bombing draw, find that harder to produce on the course but still get a few but the low one is still long and on the fairway

Could someone please explain to me what is the "0" or "-4" path number measured against? Surely it's what the machine is lined up to? I may be missing something, but if the student changes what he is aiming at and hits a shot using exactly the same swing path during the lesson without moving the machine the measured numbers will be totally different, right?

Get guys can someone help me with this, right now I'm working on changing my path to the right, and have been able to get the club behind myself at the top of my backswing, but after that, my hands take over and come over the top dragging the club back over the top. Really annoying... Any ideas?
@sdreed25
@sdreed25 10 жыл бұрын
For me I had to feel like from the top I throw my hands and the angles away and behind me. You don't lose any power, from there the only way back to the ball is to swing to the right. That's the 'feeling' that works for me, don't be in a rush to get back to the ball, create width

Took these revvingof the wrist thoughts to the range again today, what a difference I'm finding, unfortunately no LM numbers the the ball flight almost 100% R-L any draws, more penetrating, ball contact much better judging by the sound on the club on the ball at impact and gained 20 ~ 30 yards on my 7i which I assume because my dynamic loft is better, just need to work in it to grove this in. Even getting to grips with this with the driver well chuffed at the moment

Revving may be confusing because revving a motorcycle requires you to cup your wrist backward. The motion he's talking about is the opposite direction. So with your fist out in front of you, back of your hand facing skyward, the motion you want is dropping your knuckles down toward the ground.
@sdreed25
@sdreed25 10 жыл бұрын
The right hand does Rev that way but as you say the left does the opposite, as Mark says in another lesson video get the Velcro pad of the glove to the sky
@helvetesjevla
@helvetesjevla 10 жыл бұрын
Mark, am I the only one that's confused as to you manipulating the intended target line of the launch monitor? If the launch monitor is set to a specific target out on the range and your aiming (your body) to the right of it to draw it back to target. The launch monitor will always expect you to swing down the line and if your not, you will get invalid numbers. Lets say I'm aiming 45 degrees left of the launch monitors target line and just trying to hit a straight shot, wont the launch monitor interpret it as me swinging massively across the ball? say -20 to -30..? I just want to clarify that im not confused with this. I havent worked alot with gc2's.
@sdreed25
@sdreed25 10 жыл бұрын
Mark Crossfield will have to reply with the technical details but from the lesson the ball flight seemed to match the numbers when I aimed a little right, worth noting the amount I aimed right was to the right side of a lorry tyre 150 yards away that I was already aiming at (so not much).

Steve Reed Have you turned the changes into your normal swing now? I suffer from the same faults and wonder how hard it is to make the change permanent.
@sdreed25
@sdreed25 10 жыл бұрын
Yes pretty much, with driver it's pretty much permanent as I'm now hitting most fairways or just off vs my old 30-40yrd right tee shots. Irons I'm more 70% there but again the misses are less right. I went to the range 3 times a week after the lesson with Mark to ingrain the changes and still think about them in my warm-ups but not on course much. One thing I'll say is initially I hit low hooks/over-draws and alone I may have ditched the change but as Mark says in the video I then have the freedom to swing right and suddenly then become gentle draws. So stick with it and rev more than you would ever imagine, I actually feel like I couldn't hit a ball from that amount of wrist bend but I smash it
@jonpage153
@jonpage153 10 жыл бұрын
Steve Reed so what is your new vs old driver distance now you dont slice it as much??
@sdreed25
@sdreed25 10 жыл бұрын
I'd say I'm roughly 30 yards up the fairways on my home course from my previous positions off to the right on another fairway. In the current cold weather & damp fairways I'm miles past my summer best. Plus the higher flight in the ones I catch exactly right will bomb in the summer. My "bad" ones are now just low and left(ish) but still 100% playable. I'd say I'm a club longer with irons now but the more I trust the change I'm getting more each week even in the very cold frosty conditions. At the range where I feel freer to swing I'm hitting each club well beyond my previous markers. It's not 100% on my course rounds yet but it's improving week in week as I practice effectively.
