I started playing golf in 1997. I couldn't afford a golf professional to coach me then. I've learnt my golf from David Leadbetter by watching his video lessons. No digital videos then, it was in VHS (video tape) format. A legendary guru in golf.

Hi Chris Thanks again for responding, what my point is. Is that the leading edge of the club stays square to my shoulder plain on the Backswing. So I do not manipulate my hands in any way. Makes the backswing simple. Kindest regards Jordy. I still love ya 😉

Leadbetter's "A Swing" geometrics are quite different than the traditional swing mechanics...the clubbed well outside the hands, the club shaft almost vertical in the backswing (he says the hands never get outside of the club), the grip change needed for the swing, etc. I wonder if this will catch on.
@davidsmith8122 жыл бұрын

Insightful. Not sure about in the pub (or in front of the wife!) left hand straight myth - this is something I am working on at the moment. My focus is at straight arms at impact and maintaining straight arms in the follow through. Watching the pro’s , It does look like the left arm is kept straight for a longtime to waist height post impact.
@ChrisRyanGolf5 жыл бұрын
Hey Colin, yeah arms extended at impact is something that we see from many of the greats, more helpful to focus on that rather than keeping the lead arm straight in the backswing

Your right hip, needs to be deeper, on the backswing and pause for a split second, to allow your fulcrum to recentre and excess energy to dissipate, from the shaft, which always wants to utilise , the energy contained in the " Flex" to mechanicaly decoupled itself and move out of phaze, with the rotating mass !

How does this move influence your ball flight? Surely a coaches role is to help your ball flight not to make it “look orthodox”

The general advice seemed okay .. keep finding new drills to fix this or that .. frankly .. I think you give better and more useful advice than what I saw him give you in the video. Hi Chris I do respect David and his opinion however that swing drill he demonstrated was BS. The only way you can move the club inside is by manipulating your shoulders independently of your torso Turn. Most golfers swing their shoulders around their back so to speak, which is so common. If you were to start swinging by turning from lower back your arms automatically find a perfect top of the swing position. Best drill for this fix is to place a pivoting office chair against your lower back. Now as the back of the chair rests against your Lower back try rotating the chair with your lower back. Problem solved forever. Arms simply come along for the ride, no conscience thought of arms or hands. Cheers 🥂
@ChrisRyanGolf5 жыл бұрын
Hey Jordy, golf is such a good sport as we can have so many discussions about the swing as there is no ‘perfect way’. However at the top of the swing, as I’m sure you are aware, there is around 70 degrees of wrist cock, 90degrees of lead forearm rotation, external rotation of the trail arm, lead shoulder adduction and well as some shoulder protraction and flexion in many swings, unfortunately those things do not just ‘fall into place’ in my opinion when you turn from your lower back, not to mention the fact that your lower back has no rotational ability. This thought may well have worked for you in the past so not saying it’s wrong for you, but certainly not the case for me 👍
@jacobr45585 жыл бұрын
@@ChrisRyanGolf great comment Chris. Ironically I watched an old Faldo video yesterday that seems to fall in line with your issue. In the transition he calls it RE ROTATING the arms and demonstrates it with a beach ball. It seems that you go the other way. Not saying it will fix anything for you but it's a very different feeling. It was the old video with Faldo and Ledbetter called "taking it to the course". The green line on your beach ball would be rolling the other way from the top. It's a trust thing.
