Holy crap... you noobs. If HH is not the greatest violinist since Mr. Heifetz then civilization will decay and fall in the coming decades. She is the heir apparent to the throne of the greatest violinists of all time. She is already the greatest of her generation and quite possibly the greatest talent to come out of the United States in the history of man. Let's be serious about this. Otherwise, you're just missing out on this golden age for violin playing and the new objectivist wave of art that has been ushered in by the likes of legendary artists like Ms. Hahn. Many violinists, jurists, and serious listeners would have pee'd their pants after hearing this performance. It is disgustingly good... I'm surprised a human can even play at this level.

well, you're preaching to the choir here. i fully appreciate the almost inhuman level of technical perfection of HH, and her incredible artistry, which puts her at the top of the fiddle world, even in a world filled with unbelievably talented violinists. i'd say yeah, she's probably the greatest since Heifetz, but she does have some contemporaries that i'd put on the same level. very subjective of course; everybody's got their favorites, but for example, can you say that Midori is less of an artist than HH? or Kavacos? Perlman? Shaham? or as a pure technician, Roman Kim? Kristov Barati?

So many of you miss what she is doing. She is not trying to appeal to you, this is her just doing what she always does. She absolutely is feeling the music in this piece. It is not super accessible, the audience gives polite applause at the end. Where most take time, she speeds up. Where most speed through things, she pesantes it out, and she dominates the passage. With performances like this, she is essentially asserting dominance over other violinists. To do this, this accurately, shows something that nobody else has, or ever has had. This is not for your entertainment. If I heard this in person, I would near lose my mind. Until you have played this piece, at a competent level, you will not understand what an accomplishment this is. No doubt, that is why she allowed this to stay on youtube. She could have had this removed. But it is that good.

And she does this as if it were nothing. That's why audiences thinking: "is she even human." Lang-Lang had this problem in the beginning. People thought he was all technique because he made it look soooo easy. They eventually realized Lang-Lang IS a phenomenal musician. I think of if this way - many of the great figure skating champions, the great basketball legends, and even superbowl heros - they are pretty low-key. I mean look at Lebron James. I've never even seen the guy so much as raise his voice. (I'm sure he has - but his personality type is cold and calculating. Tom Brady, kind of cold and calculating, too. Hilary Hahn, if there was an earthquake she might say, "maybe we should get out of here." But other than that, no hysteria. That's probably the type of personality you need to perform at this level, in front of not just any public - I'm sure every violin teacher and student in the city was at this concert nitpicking everything Hilary did, not to mention the armchair critics. The better you are, the more critical your audience, and the more is expected of you. And despite all that, to still turn in performances that leave these idiots speechless - man, that is otherworldly talent. Hats off to this woman.

I must say after listening to her new rendition of this sonata from her new album, I still prefer this interpretation and her older playing style in general. What made her playing style so unique is that she always played with a tight rhythm with little to no rubato. Now she plays this sonata with sudden changes of tempo rather than gradual and unnecessarily dragging out a lot of notes
@Luguanyu307 Жыл бұрын
In my opinion what made this version better than the new version, not saying the new version is bad, is because the interpretation here is much more authentic. The new version just sounds more and more similar to how other people records it and it lost her own taste.

@tomah92 no question she is an amazing violinist. however like everybodyelse she is NOT perfect. now since you have perfect pitch at 2:29 something sounds funny in chord, at 2:49 the end of scale it is out of tune, at 3:04 she plays a minor instead a major chord. As far as musicality everything she plays sounds the same either Bach Bartok Prokofiev Mozar or ysaye the color in the sound is the same. Well I guess that's her individuality and i respect that.
