LIVE | India-China Border Standoff: India's EAM Jaishankar Says "Ties Significantly Disturbing"
India's External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Tuesday (September 24, 2024) said that the India-China relationship will influence the future of the world. He said, “If the world is to be multipolar, Asia has to be multipolar. And therefore, this relationship will influence not just the future of Asia but perhaps the future of the world as well.” He also added that the relationship between the two countries currently is "significantly disturbed".
The minister also explained how China violated some of their agreements including how they increased the troop deployment during COVID 19. He explained, "We have a difficult history with China. Despite the explicit agreements we had with China, we saw in the middle of COVID that the Chinese moved a large number of forces in violation of these agreements to the line of actual control (LAC). It was likely a mishap would happen, and it did. So, there was a clash, and a number of troops died on either side. That, in a sense, overshadowed the relationship.”

How China and India talk about the border issue ignoring the safe buffer provided by Tibet. It will never be resolved until the core cause is addressed. Talking about the border settlement between the Asian countries is tantamount to accepting China’s position vis-a-vis Tibet.
