question for a few of the nonsense words they start with - ar_ - I know from other lessons that ar will make the sound R / * ŏr so for a pattern like (ar-vowel) Does the Ə sound take priority? and come to think of it does - ar - just get interrupted by any tap 2 vowel?

Great question. AR usually sounds like /ar/ as in "car", but if it's in the last, unstressed syllable, it will say /er/ as in calendar.
