The slow-mo's of the flying skimmers get me! I think the only place I've ever had it was at the Glebe many moons ago fishing the old ACA Masters.

Great video, Great presentation. Great Tips. Running out of greats. Thanks again for a great insight in what fishing a match entails. The various lines, the methods and baits used and why to switch and change. Thanks again Jon for taking so much time in explaining whilst trying to win the match. I think 4th was a good result on moody Extension Pool. Cheers

It is extraordinary the amount of tackle a modern day match angler needs. When I fished my first match every angler carried their own tackle to the peg along the bank. These were the days of willow baskets. The really wealthy, or fortunate, anglers owned 2 good quality rods at best. No trollies, wheelbarrows or driving your van full of tackle to your swim. I appreciate that you do ocassional vlogs with minimal tackle. Your love of just being out fishing is obvious, but I can't help feeling something is missing from modern day match fishing. Probably because it must be very expensive.
@JonArthur2 ай бұрын
I think it's as expensive or as complicated as you want to make it really and the more you fish places the more you accumulate tackle for it. Thankfully there are still match circuits for everybody's tastes, although some are certainly dwindling

excelent vid very professional,iam old school but water temp was important to bring fish up in the water,never fished a commercial but maybe take a thermometer and log water temp,it may be interesting
@JonArthur2 ай бұрын
Totally agree water temp can play a huge part and if I was ever more organised I would log that and barometric pressure

Another fantastic video from a world class angler Jon, it seemed like hard work for you at times with the fishing being speradic ( don't know if I spealt that right) at times. If only you could of got another 10+ pound to get you into the top 3 and into the money mate 👍

@@JonArthur great,at the moment I am restricted as mum just had a knee operation and can't look after my dog so I am missing few matches but by this time next month or so I'll get the lads together and see if we can get some dates for you and try to sort it out once the river comps wrap up for them.
@JonArthurАй бұрын
No problem. I definitely cannot fish Mikes match now as its the Riverfest official practice match that day
@terrylomax67992 ай бұрын
Good turnout for a match these days Jon. Sobering thought though. Back in the 1970s Angling Times wouldn't consider filing a match report unless there were at least 80 fishing. There was never a shortage of fillers every week. Shame match fishing has lost so much of its appeal.
@JonArthur2 ай бұрын
I think it's diluted rather than lost its appeal. Back in the day there was less choice and everyone went on select big matches. I bet within an hour of TBF there were countless 10-20 peg knock ups. The canal circuit I grew up fishing was big, for instance, but lost its appeal once the northern anglers in particular got fed up with the M6 traffic, quite rightly, and couldn't justify driving past perfectly good venues. Travel complications and expenses are a huge limit to most anglers these days, so people stay more local. Then there's the luxury of parking behind your peg now and not worrying about where to park like you now have on a lot of 'natural' places I once fished. It would be nice to get back to the big ones, but 50+ is now considered big and possibly harder to win now though with so much free knowledge available. Certainly a good talking point.
