Kimberly, With the Nutcracker Village, I would use the bigger hoop. I would also use a cross-stitch ruler to see if it could help you maybe help you calculate where you want to be on your linen with your next stitches. I find a bigger hoop should allow you more room to calculate where you need to be stitching. Hope this helps. It looks absolutely amazing so far. I’m an old stitcher who uses the poke method!!

Morgan hoops have a little ridge on the inside that holds the fabric very taut/tight. They are good for all types of embroidery, and especially for punch needle because the fabric stays so tight.

Kimberly, thank you for a fun FlossTube! I just started using linen about a year ago, and it helped me to think of stitching linen over a "thread" and Aida into a "hole". To stitch faster, I use a double Morgan Hoop, and my left hand under the top hoop and my right hand on top of the top hoop. I am left handed so I put my left hand underneath to pull the needle down and turn it around to go up. My right hand can easily just poke the needle down between threads. I don't think you need to rip out the border. I love your videos!
@nancy-katharynmcgraw26692 жыл бұрын
I have the double Morgan hoop. I can't use it because of my belly; it gets in the way...sigh......but it does hold the fabric in much more snugly, than any other hoop. So, I am stitching in hand with the linen fabrics.

I learned to place the inner hoop on top of the fabric then placed the outer hoop underneath the fabric (hanging over the inner hoop) & attached the outer hoop to inner hoop over the fabric ...which is on the outside of the inner hoop. 2 reasons: 1. To keep from screw catching floss.. grr 2. To keep stitched portion from getting dirty, when placed on a surface...the backside would be on the surface. I really was more comfortable with hooping method as I, too, had been fighting that screw! I was taught by a X-stitch teacher, in Toledo, Ohio, in the 1980's, when I lived 40 minutes north, in Michigan.

Linen does take a little while to get used to stitching on, so give yourself some Grace. I still stitch in hand on linen but I don’t use the sewing method because I don’t like the way my stitches look. But some people who use hoops and Frames use either a lap or floor stand to hold it so they can stitch two handed

Love that you're trying linen! You will get faster with practice. I've only been stitching for a few years and I started stitching on linen about a year and a half a go and it is already getting so much easier and I can see smaller counts then I ever thought I would be able to when I started. It definitely just takes getting used to. Happy Stitching!
@cathylloyd92252 жыл бұрын
Kimberly, you can use the sewing method when using hoops...I'm a seasoned stitcher and use hoops, scroll frames, etc. I ALWAYS stitch with the sewing method. Try it. You'll get much more done. You can do this!! 😉
@lizzystitch48422 жыл бұрын
Is there something you do to make the sewing method easier while working in a hoop? For instance, do you loosen the fabric within the hoop quite a bit so that it's easier?
@cathylloyd92252 жыл бұрын
@Lizzystitch484 I don't notice that I do. But it may be the case. The linen isn't drum tight, I guess, but I've always done it that way. The Morgan hoop keeps things very tight. I don't use those for stitching, just for punch needle. The hoop I use is an old antique wooden hoop, which I absolutely love.

I would have to pull it out. I’ve had the problem with a border being different than the pattern & I kept messing up bc I was trying to line up the inside to a border that didn’t match! Great flosstube, it is fun to see Kimberly stretching herself and working on higher count ground fabrics. As to going faster with a hoop, as someone else mentioned, you can do the sewing method with a hoop, it just takes practice, and it might be easier to do with the 7" hoop. Alternatively, a frame, or clamp for her hoop would allow Kimberly to do two-handed stitching, which is faster, but not as portable.
