I'm 84 years old from Bihar. Have lived and worked in the UK for nearly 60 yrs. In the 1980s, I was the chief equality officer for the then largest education authority in Europe (based in London). I'm finding it excruciatingly painful to hear adult men arguing or caveating against attempts to correct such basic injustices against women (for example, halaalaa, rights and facilities concerning divorce, maintenance allowance, freedom to follow lifestyles of choice, marriage, etc.) for women in India. This is 2024 AD, not 610 AD -- for Allah's sake ! Also, please Rubikajee, please be kind to us men, especially us Muslim men. Deep inside, we feel too intimidated to argue with (and against) well-educated, sophisticated, competent journalists, especially as years of living in a parallel Muslim universe has filled our brains with a lot of vacuous mambo-jumbo, that have no links with logic, gender equality, basic human rights and such common concepts that are taken for granted in European (and many other) societies. Also, some of us men have acquired (either learnt or tutored) a way of "barking like dogs" as a cunning, even occasionally effective, strategy to subvert the natural flow of a meaningful debate. I've seen this happening in many, many of the videos from India I watch attentively (to educate & update myself about India): this happens much more frequently with Muslim men (and women anchors). Mainly Muslim men start "barking like dogs" when they find it hard to muster logical thoughts. Therefore, if we (= you, as an effective anchor) want to hear them at all, we'd need to give them space to waffle -- on Islam, sharia law, Shura, ayaat, Hadith, and be prepared to hear patiently. please, some familiar strings of rote-learnt Arabic words and phrases to impress all (especially women, who these men are secretly convinced Allah created -- during His six days of miraculous endeavours -- as jahels, ignorant idiots, crafted for one and only purpose). 😢😢😭🕉☪
