It’s crazy how many people don’t want to go to the hospital after a car crash in the US because of the costs. Something is seriously wrong with this country.

@@karstenlane6864 Psychologically that's not really what it is most of the time. People are humiliated, scared, angry, etc. and don't want to extend the experience, they just want to be done with it and go home. Most of them should at least get evaluated for internal injuries, and many will report to the hospital days later with stomach pain, back pain, etc.

As a retired fire chief that has worked at many scenes similar to this I must say that the fire department on the first call is a well trained department. The officer in charge is all business and knows exactly what to do. The other firefighters are all performing their assigned duties with no confusion or lack of organization. This clip could be a perfect part of a training video. Major Props to this fire department. 👍👍💯

@jbass69goat84
@jbass69goat84 Жыл бұрын
@Nick Sturgeon With all due respect the IC never directed anyone to change from doing any assignment they had already been given by him. Just one opinion from one person that has been there and done that......with multiple well trained personnel on hand the IC avoided the crews wasting time deciding who was doing what as a group. Each person received a task to perform and went straight to it. As I noted in an earlier comment, this was as well organized scene and scene management as I have ever seen. If I was Chief of this fire department I would be pleased with and proud of everyone and everything that is seen happening in this clip. Again, just one viewpoint. God Bless All First Responders. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🇺🇲

Having one definite person in charge is so important, too. Or else all descends into chaos! He was very level headed and authoritative, and so calm with the patient. She was out of it and kept calling for help, and he just calmly said, “We are, ma’am. We’re here to help you.” I’d believe him.

Having somehow survived a rural 75mph head on, having well trained responders is paramount. We both lived as did the drunk driver. I had been a certed wilderness first responder way back in the day, training kicked in when I was semi lucid, kept us alive for the 75-80 minutes it took for the 1st motorcycle cop to get to us. The trucker who put out the engine fire saved us, always have a vehicle fire extinguisher and a tool to cut seatbelts and break windows securely attached to your center console so it won't fly out. We couldn't use the window breaker bit as we were too damaged, and no windows in the front or the roof that were big enough for us to crawl out. The firefighters were a huge blessing, even though the gore from my husband's stomach and leg made a few hurl. But they kept us alive enough to get to the bus that took us to the life flights. Thank you to all firefighters and EMTs. Seriously, life savers!!!

My sister had a massive stroke in August of 2017. The doctors didn't think she'd live and if she did, they said she'd be bedridden for the rest of her life. Fast forward to Christmas 2017 and after months of therapy and living in a rehabilitation facility after being released from the hospital, she was able to walk short distances using a walker and was able to come spend a few days at home for Christmas. She told me she wanted to take coffee and donuts to the firefighters and paramedics who had helped her. I was working for the city where I lived at the time and was friends with the public education officer for the fire department and asked her if she could find out which firefighters were on the call and when they were scheduled next. I brought her home the evening when they were working and we stopped to pick up a couple dozen donuts and a couple coffee boxes. We loaded up her walker and she walked them into the fire department and thanked them for their part in saving her life. We dropped off the coffee and donuts for the paramedics the next day.

@@someoneelse267 It's funny to me that people bring goodies and thanks to the fire station. Depending on where you are, EMS and fire may be separate. If they're not, the medics who actually help people during strokes and heart attacks are probably out on a call. EMS and hospitals don't get much thanks despite being full of the people who actually save lives. Firefighters and police tend to save more property than life, but are always hailed as heros simply for showing their face on a call.

I served 5 years as a Volunteer Fireman, I had to leave after attending too many MVA's with deaths. The last one was horrible a van with an entire family only one survived, and two from the pickup taken to hospital via Heli another from an 18 wheeler via ambulance. The chief and I had to guard the deceased on the side of the road for several hours, waiting for the coroner and transport. Then wash the blood and body parts from the road, along with the car parts. Worst part was searching for one missing occupant who had been thrown through the window of the van, it affected a bunch of us. Don't get mad with me if I won't drive off unless everyone is wearing seatbelts, and stop completely at stop signs, and really look left and right. And look for trains, there is never much left when you get hit by a train, especially driving a tractor. Be careful out there.

I was in an accident many years ago when my 10 year old son was 13 months old. I ran out of gas and was as far left as I could get on a 4 lane road(2lanes for each side) going to get gas as my gas gauge said I still had 1/4th tank left. I had called AAA and they couldn't help me but they did patch me through to the non emergency line for the sheriff's office. I was so afraid that an 18 wheeler was going to hit us but nope right as the cop turned his lights on on the other side of the road coming towards us and made a u turn to come and help me a car hit us going around 60-65 mph and hit us hard enough that it buckled the passenger side doors and turned my car all the way to the left and up a big curb. She and her dad tried to blame me and the cop told him no way in heck was it the other person's fault I saw it all happen and your daughter was distracted and slammed into her. They also said thank goodness your son was still rearfacing because with the impact and the passenger seat flying back he wouldn't be alive still.
@AliPali207
@AliPali207 7 ай бұрын
@@jsrcamp That sounds terrible! Glad you're alive & had a cop nearby. Advice is if you need to stop and park to the far left of the road like you did, then put on your hazard lights and sidelights to warn other drivers that your car is stationary, and get OUT of the car using the doors away from the traffic before waiting behind the barrier or away from your vehicle. Obviously, there might be weather conditions or something else that prevents this but according to the RAC (UK org) 100 people are killed or injured on the motorway hard shoulder every year, and that's a place designed for stopping!

It's really sad when a cop has to take a father aside and make him choose between having his child watch him be taken to the hospital on a stretcher or having his child watch him be taken away to the police station in handcuffs. What makes me angry is that the father is too drunk to understand that they are still allowing him to remain a hero in his son's eyes if he gets on the stretcher.

As a retired RN that worked ED I found this one of the most interesting posts I’ve ever watched. As the receiver of patients from many different ambulance services, it was crystal clear obvious who the top notch services were, and those that could use some improvement! In all fairness however, we worked with a fair amount of volunteer ambulance services. Most were super good and were obviously well trained, some just needed more training on prioritizing . But they were all devoted and interested in improving. I say kudos to the professionals and the volunteers who serve with the highest level of caring…🎉.

Reading that the US has volunteer ambulance services is mind blowing. Here in Australia if you're not a career paramedic you can't legally work on an ambulance except in remote locations. Even EMT level is not recognised nor legal here.

a big shout out to the first responders . im an rn and i had just got done working 40 hours in a row and i was driving home on a back road where a deer ran out in front of me. i jerked the wheel too hard in my delayed reaction, hit a ditch and flipped three times before stopping upright and being ejected through the windshield. i was wearing a seatbelt but the latch malfunctioned and i was unbuckled. i laid in a muddy ditch with water in it unconscious for at least an hour. an off duty emt happened to drive down that road, later i found out she had no reason to go down that road in fact she’s never even been down it before but something told her to. she said she brushed it off but the farther away she got, the stronger the feeling got so she turned around. she was 19 and had only been working for a week. she pulled up to me laying in a ditch just covered in blood, she called 911. she climbed right down into that muddy ditch and used her hands on me to apply pressure for the bleeding and check me. she ran her fingers through my hair very carefully not to move me or hurt me and kept telling me everything is going to be okay, she’s gonna make sure of it. she ‘held’ me and comforted me the whole 25 minutes it took ems to get to me and she even rode with me to the hospital and held my hand just to ‘prove’ she’s got me. i had a skull fracture, my diaphragm tore in half, my lung got punctured and deflated, my stomach was shoved into my chest cavity, my pelvis was fractured in three places, my face had some burns on it from the airbag, i received a concussion, road rash and fractured hip sockets. i will forever be thankful to our first responders.

@@zparkyy1800 An unexpected overcompensating split second decision trying to avoid an unpredictable moving potentially deadly thing in the road in no way equates to 'knowing how to drive your car'. Especially a deer, they get really erratic when they panic. Years ago I got thrown into a patch of gravel on the side of the road after a deer ran out going around a turn about 60 on my CBR. I managed to get past it, but not before it decided to get spooked and turn back as I went by, and hit the tail throwing me off. I knew how to ride just fine. There was simply no avoiding it, no reaction time, I was riding then I was sliding on gravel. Honestly, aside from the road rash and having to call an ambulance myself, the worst part at the time was I smashed the Burger King meal in my backpack and I was absolutely starving. lol

I witnessed the crash at 1:45:40 in Alachua county. I was stopped at the red light by McDonald’s. The truck went airborne after striking that car. It’s right down from Shands, so lots of medical bystanders immediately ran to help. I remember seeing that nurse or dr in the red scrubs and dark ponytail sprinting right after it happened. The driver of the truck climbed out of the passenger window before emergency personnel arrived. It was crazy…like watching a movie stunt scene when the crash happened!

They said the pickup truck ran the light but if the other car was going straight like she said then that’s impossible. It’s a big intersection with a double left turn lane. If the car said she was turning left then that would make sense as it’s only a green arrow at that intersection to turn left. So I can’t say. My memory is the car was stopped in the intersection and the truck came flying through and struck it when everyone else was stopped at the light.

Did you notice that the St. Louis Firefighter/ Paramedics didn’t give the patient any oxygen or provide BVM ventilation, they just waited for the Narcan to work, ignoring the possibility of any head injury. SLFD made other glaring mistakes throughout the video, so bottom line, don’t get sick in St. Louis.

The best way to save lives is for everyone to take seriously their responsibility to be safe drivers. Slow down as speeding is the number one killer. Don't be in a hurry on the road. Drive according to road conditions. Be alert to people's mistakes. Life is precious but fragile. Don't demand your right of way when it is not safe to do so. Avoid distractions from your driving. Pull off the road safely to deal with matters that will distract your driving safely. We all learned these when we began driving, sadly we forget them and get bad habits. Be a DEFENSIVE DRIVER. How many times do first responders service an "Accident" that was completely avoidable and lives needlessly lost?
