Terry, It is an air chisel from Harbor Freight.. I took on of the chisels and welded it to the schedule 80 pipe and welded the pitch fork to the pipe and there you have it!

The three of us doing the work are all retired. We enjoy the work on Wednesday. Our track is in tip-top shape. Rarely does anyone derail. We get lots of compliments from visitors.

What are you using for ballast? I'm confused because it looks like a mix of 2B for the base, then chips after that?
@superberky12044 жыл бұрын
Base is 3/4 clean stone. 1/2 inch on top after track is in. Then slowly feed 1/4 on top as it is being tamped. IT IS TIGHT when done

@@superberky1204 interesting. Dad was using 2B, with decent success, as 1A (I think or called chip) looked good, but wouldn't stay put at all. He was adamantly against 2b with screenings "because it won't drain" ... not sure how true that is.

I am on the track crew at the Annetta Valley & Western here in North Texas and I am interested in the tamping tool made from the pitchfork. Exactly what sort of tool is attached to the handle to create the vibrations for tamping? Thanks! -Terry S.

What does the tamperer do? Make sure the gravel settles?
