I was on board Qatar 🇶🇦 A380 today. Thanks to the Captain 👨‍✈️ and the crew members who gave full confidence and looked after all the passengers. TBH all passenger’s Were pissing their pants. The go arounds looked scary from inside the plane as the engines blasted to go back in the air. Brilliant landing as we all were lucky third time around. Thank you Jerry for the most beautiful memories.

You don't have to been an aviation junkie to appreciate how historic this was!!! I like how he began the stream by saying how impressed he was that 11k people were watching (at the time), eventually more than 3.5 million people watched this live stream today. I'm no aviation freak, but I'm a sure appreciator of passion and dedication to one's craft and certainly for Jerry to stand for more than 4 hours to deliver this live stream (with epic and humorous commentary to it) is honestly something to be admired!!!

The key thing to remember is that there are millions of pilots on the planet. Tier one commercial airline pilots represent about 1% of that number and are among the best in the world, with many of them coming from military aviation backgrounds. They have ice in their veins.

If you read this comment and are wondering, Jerry (Big Jet TV) was with the camera crew recording a series called Heathrow: Britain's Busiest Airport. There are a couple episodes that he is in. Yes, the skill is in knowing exactly when to make the call, a lot of people's lives could depend on it. Situations like this always remind me of the Some Mother's Do 'Ave 'Em episode where the flying instructor tells Frank Spencer (Michael Crawford) that there are old pilots and there are bold pilots but there are no old bold pilots. 😀

@@jakehowie442 Ensuring cabin safety is the primary function of cabin crew but thankfully their skills in this area are rarely called upon. When it comes to go-arounds, it's all about the flight crew, i.e. the captain has to make the correct decision at the right moment, unnecessary go-arounds cost money so he/she will have to account for his/her actions to senior management. They even tried to tell Captain Sullenberger that he'd made the wrong decision. Giving new recruits lessons in grooming and providing them with a smart uniform will make them look good but that does not necessarily mean they are unintelligent, and they have certainly passed the same training as the more mature ones who would not cut it on the catwalk at a fashion show.

As an airline pilot in the US, this is crazy! Bit of context, most airplanes have an automated wind shear warning system and pretty much every airline trains their pilots to execute a go-around when wind shear is encountered on approach. We’re trained to keep our configuration (gear, flaps, etc) until out of wind shear. I can say from experience that it’s a nerve wracking experience, no matter how many times we’ve practiced in the simulator. At the end of the day, every pilot is doing their best to land the airplane safely, not always soft and pretty, but we try to get you on the ground. No matter how much experience we have, these days are always a challenge

Had an insane landing experience here in 2019. While on approach you could see the flaps going up and down rapidly while the plane stayed somewhat seemingly level. Then when we got what seemed like 6 ft from the ground and took back off into the air. These planes have an immense power that till that day I had not realized. Thanks to all the pilots out there.

you probably mean the ailerons. The ailerons are used to roll (steer) the aircraft and they will move quite rapidly under these conditions. The flaps on the other side are something different. The flaps are mounted next to the ailerons and their purpose is to increase the surface of the wings in order to get more lift. However on approach especially in these conditions pilots will fully deploy the flaps quite early on and then leave them in this configuartion for the rest of the approach. Also flaps do not deploy very rapidly but you can hear them deploy. It is this steady brumming sound of the hydraulic pumps that is audible in the cabin. You can hear it a few times when you are getting closer to the airport and when you look out the window when you hear that sound you will see the wings getting bigger and this are the flaps :)

Under normal conditions planes will not use 100% of thrust during takeoff as this so called TOGA thrust uses a lot of fuel, damages the enignes if applied too long, is very loud, can scare the nervous flyers under us and is absolutley unnecessary for most conditions. Therefore pilots use a so called „flex temp“ setting. The setting is calculated by looking at runway length, wind conditions, outside temperature and air pressure and normally the power used is around 80/85% of max thrust for take off. During go arounds however pilots will definetly use TOGA thrust, so only at that point you will be able to experience the full power of the planes engines. So he is right about that :)

I was on Concorde (very lucky girl) for a go around, absolutely Awesome. Never forgotten it. I could have done that all day. The power of those engines. We had literally touched the tarmac when those awesome engines went to full thrust and we went around. Happy days

I was on Flight BA208. First Attempt (10:58am) - 1:55:46 Second Attempt (11:16am) - 2:13:50 Couldn't retrieve my bags due to the wind as they couldn't open the hold door. Was watching Big Jet TV while waiting for them! Craziest flight I've ever been on and some of the cabin crew also seemed to think so!

@@lamborgini2010 It was pretty bad, few screams from the cabin (as per usual lol). The cabin manager thanked us all for our patience as it was one of the worst landings he had in 30 years of flying. Wandering around baggage reclaim, I saw a few phones with what looked to be big jet tv on haha.

I have flown at high winds before absolutely terrifying!! I was actually sitting next to a pilot on his way home and he said oh it's fine, if I start screaming or crying then you should worry LOL!!! Bless him, he was trying so hard but I was in tears.

LOL I feel for you. The first time I flew overseas I kinda freaked out a bit when we came down to land and I didn’t know what the rumbling coming from the engines was. But from where I was sitting I could see some of the cabin crew and they were totally relaxed so I did too. If something was wrong they’d react. But my biggest issue with flying is that I get pretty strong vertigo often. I think it’s related to changes in height and direction as circling is ghastly. I’m pretty sure if I were aboard one of those planes that day I’m reasonably confident that I’d just pass out entirely.
