I love what Lisa’s done with the CPU side but we need something to be done about the GPU side. We need a AMD Card that is on par or superior to the 4090 in both regular and ray tracing games.
@andersjjensen9 ай бұрын
Why? I'm a senior software engineer so I can afford whatever I want (short of Lambos and boats and the like). Nobody I know has opted for a 4090 for personal use. I mean, there are of cause a couple of dorks who are so obsessed with "having the best" that they'll gladly pay double the price for 30% more performance. And Nvidia can have that "win" for all I care. But what the vast majority of gamers right now is screaming/yelling/begging for is stellar performance in the $200-700 range. I bought an XTX myself for 1440p gaming (which is admittedly stupid), but the vast majority isn't there. A landslide victory would be 4080/7900XTX levels of performance, with 16GB, for $499.99. Halving the cost per frame, in a single generation, is where the volume sales are.
@ReviewTechTexas9 ай бұрын
@@andersjjensen I signed a lease with cutting edge gamer and paid about 250 a month for 12 months to own by 4090. To me I want the top of the line gpu to max games out and get the best fps at 4K HDR with Ray Tracing.
@andersjjensen9 ай бұрын
@@ReviewTechTexas You paid $3000 in total for a gaming GPU? Welp, the 5090 is only 9-12 months away, and I can tell you right now that AMD will not have a direct competitor.

@@andersjjensen I got the 4090 in 2022 so it was still new at the time.
@user-lp5wb2rb3v8 ай бұрын
@@andersjjensen No offense, but I disagree. That would be like saying "why do we need more than 4 cores, no one will pay double for the i7 990x" or scoffing at the Titans from nVidia. But I do agree that nVidia has gone over the top pushing the power, just like Intel did with their watercooled 28 core 5ghz in 2018. That is why we need AMD to release something that says "oh remember that 4090 which had a tdp of 600W and was $1599? Well here is the 9700xt for $399 it performs the same at 150W, but wait there is more, a 9800xt (two chiplets) at 300W for only $999, and its 3x the performance!!" Also a "landslide victory" would be 4080/7900xtx for $299, essentially making you seem stupid to even look at nVidia let alone buy (just like what Ryzen did to the i7 6700k, 1700x was half the price double the cores) But if AMD wants half the market share, (they did it before with hd 4870/5870, they can do it again) then they need to be ontop or within 10%

LOL. I have a Ryzen 7840U based laptop in the mail. I didn't buy it for the NPU, but rather because I need 8 fast cores and a decent enough iGPU... Hey Lisa, are you going to solve the horrible power consumption of 7000 series GPUs @ video playback ? (KZbin, Netflix, VLC etc.) 45+ W is stupidly HiGH & meaningless... AMD needs to solve that "power issue @ video playback" at least in the next 8000 series. 🤔 * Emphasize on "video playback" as most people confuse it with idle, web or gaming consumption like below comments👇

I was bitten by the high idle consumption (and hence high video playback consumption, as that's idle power + media block) because I'm running 3x1440p@165Hz on an XTX. The problem has been solved for me for almost 6 months. There are still a few instances where people, who run multiple monitors of mis-match resolution, are having issues (as noted in the Known Issues section of driver release notes) but they are working on it. Strangely enough, it was solved in Linux before Windows (I use both). Like @danieloberhofer9035 I'm seeing very reasonable power figures now in both idle and and video playback.
