Well over 70% of Singaporeans voted for our new President Tharman, technically than we the citizens of Singapore is the boss of Tharman and he is working for us Singaporeans right! So the argument that he is from a political party which he has left does not really hold water because they are not his boss now. Another plus is since he knows his fellow colleagues from the government and civil sector its actually strengthens his role as a President which over 70% of Singaporean fully supported this argument. The arguments of true-born Singaporean and party affiliations rings hollow because it neglects the quality of the person, his/her moral fiber and independence thinking and instead trivialize and narrows the choice towards an emotional argument which is never a good thing for rational and critical thinking! Thank god for the smarter IQ of more than 70% Singaporeans making the right decision and choice.

There are various salutes in the military. Hand salutes, rifle salute etc. Those flags are Regimental Colors, and lowering the colors is the highest form of salute.
