Leading messaging app Whatsapp today told the Delhi High Court that if it is forced to break end-to-end encryption, it will leave India.
India is the biggest market for Whatsapp - with over 400 million users.
It is owned by Meta, the company behind Facebook. Meta’s lawyers were arguing in a case - challenging 2021 India’s Information Technology Rules. The Rules require companies like Meta to identify the first originator of information.
Whatsapp told the court that the rules violate the fundamental rights of users.
