Street skateboarders from around the world are descending on the picturesque Dubai Habour to compete in the World Skateboarding Tour’s Dubai street 2024 event from 3 to 10 March. The World Skateboarding Tour (WST) forms a key part of the ‘Road to Paris’ for park and street skateboarders looking to compete at the Olympic Games and WST Dubai Street 2024 stop will mark a critical stage on that journey.
The event will be the last chance for skaters to accrue points towards their Olympic World Skate Ranking (OWSR) before a cut is made - using those rankings - ahead of the second phase of qualification, the Olympic Qualifying Series (OQS). The OQS is a two-part competition series taking place in Shanghai (16-19 May) and Budapest (20-23 June) and will be the settings to determine the final fields for Paris 2024.

While I think the 50-50 kickflip out is a little boring on the other hand her nollie/switch game is so far ahead of all the other girls and she gets scored high for it rightfully so. In that single run she did a huge kickflip, switch flip down the 5, nose grind nollie flip & 50-50 kickflip. Even if those 4 were the only tricks she did in her whole run she’d still have the best run out of all the other girls. Yeah sure her frontside flip got a little wobbly on the roll away but her feet didn’t touch the ground, didn’t drag her tail & her hands didn’t touch the group. Considering the other girls aren’t doing ANY flip tricks down the stairs I think her frontside flip was properly scored

Best tricks are still over scored in comparison to runs. I’ve seen tricks score higher in best trick than entire flawless runs that contain the same trick - it makes no sense, and devalues runs. This seems wrong given that runs are harder from a time, planning, consistency and fitness perspective.

What’s amazing is that the progression of women’s skateboarding is being pushed by girls in their young teenage years.. if they keep at it into their twenties the level is gonna be intimidating.. even just from last event the progression is unreal. Another big winner in this was the chat when Akama pulled through for the win. Honestly though a lot of people talked about rayssa taking off her shirt and were saying security would step in because it’s Dubai. I ignored it but then next run you see the shirt is back on. She missed a lot of tricks. Some were saying being told off may have messed with her head. She is always under dressed (skating in a sports bra) in competitions but she’s literally just a kid so nobody cares generally. I feel kind of bad for the kid, I know at that age being suddenly told off for something like that would really mess with your emotions. I wouldn’t be surprised if she was super self conscious and sad and it made her mess up her runs. This is something they should have either addressed before the competition or been able to have someone have her back when that sort of thing went down. Poor kid.

Thats strange because ive been to dubai and they dont care there as they get a lot of a tourism, I saw women in bikini's just out and just dressed in short shorts in a lot of places, I went with my girlfriends family and it wasnt the oppressive place I thought it would be, women were out and about no restraints

I think it’s actually insane that little Cenxi Cui as stated by the commentators “has no sponsors and is supported by her parents”. C’mon. China has a billion people and this little girl is basically carrying the whole of China for the Olympics skateboarding event . She has an interesting bag of tricks, kickflip into grinds, kickflip grabs on transition etc and skates very fast. There’s a whole cream of the crop of new Japanese talent, Yumeka and Momiji have tonnes of sponsors and at least AM by big sponsors like red bull in the case of Yumeka. Coco, Liz, nanaka, Miyu etc are all flow and I think Liz may have some bigger sponsors like flip or I think Nanaka may even be pro for meow skateboards and maybe a board shop. No way that Cenxi can’t get some support considering she’s one skater repping a big country and performing so well for her age. I really hope after her showing in this contest a company steps up and she goes flow for a board sponsor, shoes and maybe an energy drink or something. The kid is doing really well, just needs to up her consistency and add a couple more big tricks to her repertoire for single trick section and she can make podium or win easily.

2:13:30 Skateboarding doesn't make any sense, in the semi-final Rayssa got above 85 with a much simpler run than the one in the final and increases the difficulty with 3 flip maneuvers, including a blunt flip and the score gets lower? 84? This doesn't make any sense, especially compared to Matsumoto's run which had 1 point less than hers, with 2 50-50, bs feeble, fs lipslide? How Rayssa only gets 84 with an absurd run like that. It is clear that the judges did not judge her in the same way as the others, perhaps they were expecting more from her and this was reflected in the final grade, which is not fair, this clearly caused upset and let her down for the rest of the competition, she deserved a grade of around 86/87, that wasn't fair. 2:32:50 And how does this score above 90? Landing like that, not even she believed this totally overscored note

Before I even read your comment I saw how far down the list they were and my first thought was they must not have skated at one or more of the events. Both of them typically do pretty well but especially Jamie Foy. Honestly I think he gets scored high for the tricks he does. He rarely flips the board, does zero nollie or switch tricks and his grinds/slides don’t have a ton of variety. The majority of his high scoring tricks are almost always some variation of fakie front feeble or front crook

All these guys have won contests before
